Align 600l Stripped Front Tail Drive Gear?
Guys, just test flew my 600l and halfway through the second flight heard a funny wine, set it down and discovered 3 teethe were missing on the Front Tail Drive Gear!
Has anyone else had this issue and suggestions as to why/how this could happen?

Thanks,
Fellow Flier,
Terry

I don't know about the new 600l but with a lot of the other TREX 600's there was an issue with getting the front tt gear mesh aligned properly , the way to fix that was to buy a kit from KDE , it comes with some metal braces for holding your boom holder in place and it comes with some shims for your tt gear so that you can get the spacing just right. Here is the link.

anecdotally, I had a bad bearing in the REAR tailbox (one of the two supporting the rear bevel gear in the boom) that caused failures of the front tail gear. It was a repeatable occurrence...every 5th flight I could count on the front bevel gear stripping---it got so that I'd just hover my 5th flight and do little punchouts until it failed as I was trying to find the issue.

this probably goes to the poor mesh mentioned above. But, replacing the bad rear bearing ended my failures.

As far as the bad bearing itself, it did not present until I had the tailbox off of the heli. when it was all together it felt fine. But, with the tailbox in my hands with only the bevel gear installed I could feel the bad bearing loading up the gear. at 5:1 rotation of the headspeed all those little loads were just jackhammering the TT drive train. The weakest link failed--which is the front TT gear mesh.

that's my theory anyway.
if it ain't broke, break it.

designed to fail
If you touch tail blades it will fail every time put 700 skid on back or a shim between rear skid and side frames so heli has elevated look like mostro to prevent tail blade touch

Very common issue with the front tt gears...touch the tail strip the gears.....dont take much and happens fast. The only way to not have this happen is to land softer. Even if you put a longer tail on if you land on the tail its gonna strip the gears.Fly Hard......Team Viagra

Thanks to all for your inputs...I was hoping it was not something I had done wrong mechanically when I built it...Still a bummer...will take off the concrete in the future!

They never strip in the tail box where it would be a lot easier to change. Is there a mod 1 upgrade for it? Or ws I dreaming that?Fly Hard......Team Viagra

Does the 700E M1 helical tail drive gears fit the 600? Ratio would be 4.72?

...never mind I see that the 600L tail ratio is 3.85. I guess that's because the heli is designed for HS of 2400+, if you were just running 2000-2200 the 4.72 gear ratio would be an advantage as it would give better tail authority at lower HS's.

That may work with a LHS setup. I think the gear box will fit the tube. I will have to check it out.Fly Hard......Team Viagra
