I got the squaring tool and its nice BUT,, was made from 1018 steel and was "holy-moly" costly. (We talked 4140.. but he must have decided not to use it)

What does this mean.. well.. it means.. I am only going to get so many presses for my money.. My guess is less then 50 presses.. @ 50 that makes it 7.60 per press.. yes. it was that much!

For sale.. pre-pressed .187 cables, any length while supplies last...

Let me get some pics up so you can see my setup. I am sick, Cold, and my grandson was here and he was sick.. so guess what he gave me.. well..Lots of love = a cold with it but I would do it again. you can see this might take some time.....lol

NEED SLEEP!

Doc Emile..

My cable drive will have one end bound to the drive system (Octura Flex Hex on the tail box) and the other end floating in a square drive. that way the cable will not bind as it attempts to shrink during load.

Also.. for me to remove the mechanics from this machine will include the chassis mounting bolts and un plug the rudder from the RX.. I can then just slide it out. The tail drive cable stays put and I don't have to un-do it from the mechanics.

To lube the cable I can just loosen the flex and pull the cable out. Not sure I can do this from the tail side yet (proly not) so it might take me removing the mechanics.. but as we know that's going to be super fast and easy.

Having said all this in steps a squaring tool. Yes.. I had it custom made and at 380 bucks was the most expensive part of the machine that does not fly on the bird.. my wallet is still showing the low fuel light...

Pics soon

Ah ok, I see. ive never seen or even heard of one of those things before. quite nifty however pricey!
I am usoing predator mechs with my Lakota and EC145 which has a 5mm output shaft. I made a couple of couplers (heh heh) to attatch the cable to the mechanics and tail rotor gearbox.
I solder the small brass tubing to the end of the cable with silver solder which makes grinding a flat easier and prevents fraying of the end.when I remove the mechs from the fuse, I undo the set screws in the coupler at the mechanics end leaving the cable and the coupler in the fuse.

cool.. I have been around the block with cable drives.. not in heils but in boats.

I also silver solder the cable ends as you gain a ton of strength attaching the inner lays to the outer. Truth is its super important to do that.

The only setscrews in the system I am using are the two that hold the flex hex to the tail box output shaft. Fitting application!

Next time I will machine my own blocks..lol...
