I just picked up a futaba 701 with governor.
how do I tell if my stator gator will work or if I need to buy the adapter or a new one?
is there a way to tell prior to plugging everything up and trying it?

thanks
tony

If you are using the correct stator gator for your engine/ ignition it should work with the 701.

The GY701 works excellent on a gasser.

Using throttle curves is so old fashion, a good governor is a better way to go for 3D. Properly set up curves take experimenting, adding in mixes then making one change and needing to do it all over.
The objective is to hold a consistent head speed which helps the heli and the engine.

If you want the use the stator gator sensor, Make sure the gator is for the right motor, there is an RC version, PUH and an Ei version. They are not compatible with each different type of motor.
There are directions here on Runryder and on their web site thestatorgator.com on connecting the stator gator using a 701.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

I am just trying to determine if my old stator gator, 3 years, maybe older will work with the 701.
i had been using it with a gv-1.
Havent finished building the heli, so cant test it on board.

vatechguy3...one thing to remember...when using a governor (almost any type), you want to setup the radio throttle curve to match somewhat closely to that of the governor. One of the problems I had with the GV-1 was it would drop out of governor mode when I switched into idle up. There is a throttle position percentage that activates the governor mode. If the radio throttle curve doesn't match fairly close to that of the governor, it will conflict with the on/off position and possibly cause the governor to drop out.

This would be extremely bad if you were on the deck and flipped to inverted grass cutting...and then the governor dropped out! It doesn't need to be exact. You should be able to fly your heli without the need of the governor just in-case something were to break/fail in flight. Electronics can fail when you least expect it. Reason 2 for setting up throttle curves.
