UIH,

Haven't posted in some time. I knew this would be a case study in "how to pack 5 lbs of schit into a 2 lb bag" ...
...however my estimation was incorrect, it is 6 lbs of schit. HA!!!

The TGB area needed some adjustments to get the assembly to fit under the cowling. The box needed to sit low and to aircraft left to not interfere with the upper cowling.

With a little "tweak" here and a little "tweak" there it all fits.

Next will be the structure for the pylon to stiffen it up. The drive shaft from the IGB to TGB is 120mm. the plan is to have a support bearing mid-span for that shaft. It only being 120mm it may not need one but think it better to have one.

A few pics.

UIH,

Making progress.

The gear is mocked up and got a first look at the Blackhawk's stance. Looks pretty bad a$$.

The gear legs are about the last system that needed to be checked for fit. Once I figure out where the tail servo is going to be mounted, I can begin prepping the structural parts and fuse for bonding. There are still some minor adjustments to be made but nothing major.

UIH,

B

UIH,

House spring clean up good so have been back at doing some schit. Main structure all bonded in, gear is moving along and looking good. Have to build the tail rotor control and stab servo trays. Both will be located side by side under the tail drive coupling.

Getting the main structure bonded is a pretty big step. Hopefully things will begin to move along a little faster in the near future. I really want to see this thing in the air.

Thanks my "bruthers from other muthers"

Been following both you biotches threads, 105 and a K-Max. How cool is dat.

Yea, NO Not flight ready for 8 JUN but I will have it at Joel's event for show and tell.

I am working for a maiden first/ mid August if not a little sooner. I would like to spend the first days at Dalton expanding the flight envelope if all goes well. I have a few operators who would like my "services" for several weeks so that will slow down the process a bit but we will see. I guess to make it work, I may be working overtime.

Getting too old for dis schit

Looking good Butch. Is that the roban hh60 next to it? If so what do you think of the kit, mainly scale accuracy or close to it?

Chris

I don't always fly helis, but when I do I prefer to fly scale.

Chris,

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is a Roban HH-60 kit. It belongs to a friend of mine who needed a little more room for final set up so brought it over for the extra space.

It's a nice kit. The paint and fuse detail is good however the color is not correct. The cockpit doors and upper cowls fit good but the slider operation on the RH side is poor. Sliders are tough in general. I have never flown Roban but I know several folks who have and are very happy with the way they perform. They always look real nice in the air as well.

I felt inspired today so went to work on fitting the sponsons and getting the gear wells cutout. The sponsons fit very tight to the structure. Now to think about how to attach them and still have then removable for access. Thinking about rails bonded to the frames and holding the sponsons in place with small screws, we will see.

Looks bad ass sittin' on the gear!!

I suggest telescoping tubes with magnets similar to what I did for the side guns on Wolfie. No exposed fasteners then.

BRILLIANT!!!

As they fit very snug to the structure and the stub wings will run through the sponsons and be securely attached that will work perfectly.

Thanks for the thought

UIH,

Over the past 5-6 weeks that "W" word has been getting in the way with the real stuff. I will have the 67 at Dalton but unsure if it will be ready for flight. I will keep pressing on but we will see.

I threw the blades on yesterday and this schit just got real. This thing is all blades. 1880 mm rotor diameter and the fuse is only 130 mm without sponsons and wings.

The tail gear box output shaft is about 15 mm too short so replacing the shaft and making a new slider with a spacer. This will keep all the controls inside the tail gear box fairing and only the pitch change beam and hub outside the fairing.

Can you see a slight droop in the 865 main blades? That's pretty cool.
