Yeager you have some stunning Nova Cuatro photos in your gallery.

What beautiful helicopters!

A petrol Futura would possibly have to be the perfect helicopter. It’s such a waste that someone can’t bring them back into production.

Great service from their side, with the paint job. Good to know. My Robbe's are all pod and boom - unfortunately.

I see from the product code you send, that they are left hand rotation blades.. They are on a Cuatro, Right, but that's a right hand rotational machine?

I don't think I'll be able to use 140mm on the tail, due to ground clearance, but 130mm is possible with some safety device build in to protect the tail movement on the ground.

Paul,

Thank you. Yeah, I had to search hard, to find and collect them, 6-12 years after production ceased, and the same with the spare parts. Anyways, now they'll have a long time ahead of them. Soon they'll be back out flying.

Obviously, I agree on the sad part that nobody's willing or able to bring them back into production. I can't see how these machines can even be compared to most of the cheap cr@p that's selling these days.

Cheers,
Claus

Yes I went with left hand rotation as it’s electric. Just had to flip the one way and a gear flip in the tail box. Not so easy with glow or turbine. I have modified Millenium mechanics with no clutch.

Ahh.. That explains the left hand rotation, which for you scale is the correct choice!. Great, enjoy, and thanks for the advise on the blades, I'll initially test fly my three and four blade cuatros with the blades I already got, and then consider to order a new set of blades (main and tail). I'll be using 130mm on the tail and planning on running between 1175-1375 rpm on the head.

Yes those head speeds should be good. I’m not sure if you will need the bigger tail blades with pod and boom. The BK has such a big area of fuz next to the blades that I think the tail becomes a bit inefficient. Only a guess though. Make sure you don’t use the speed up gears in the tail box either. They had a bit of an issue of wearing out quite quickly. I have an issue at the moment where the 45 degree gears are just about shot in mine. Looking at changing over to Vario gears but they don’t make 45 only 40 or 50 degree.

Mick,

Yes, I’m fully aware of the problematic speed up tail gears. I’ve replaced mine according to recommendations, and one of them with the pricier bevel gears. Thanks for the reminder. You can still get the original gears for the Robbe at some internet shops. Let me know if you need links for that.

Cheers,
Claus

Yes thanks that’d be great. I had a bit of a search a few months ago but couldn’t find any in stock. That’s when I started looking for other brands to replace them with.

Mick,

I mentioned in this link that the Robbe S0318 might be a better solution, based on other peoples advise;

https://rc.runryder.com/t100603p1/

I think Perth RC might have the S0319 in stock (according to webpage);

http://www.perthrc.com.au/tail-rotor-gear-20-teeth.html

There is an old danish (now online) store that has the S0318 gears (which comes in a set of 2), these are pricy but I suppose they are expected to last a lot longer, due to the design. I have a set of these, from this shop, installed in a Cuatro, but I haven't had opportunity to test yet;

https://trex-rc-helicopter.dk/shop/...l?keyword=S0318

Let me know if any of this works..

Cheers,
Claus

Sorry mate, I’m talking about the gears in the 45 degree gearbox on the BK117. You had my hopes up there for a minute.

Got myself one of these tail hubs, to counter for the lower main rotor head speed. It's from SK Rotorkopf in Germany.

I don't think so, but I haven't had chance to install it on the actual heli yet. I will let you know soon, shouldn't be too long now.. ;-)

had a quick look at this the other day, I'm 90% that the original shaft will work. But, I hope to be able to confirm this during the summer time, as I'll get one of the petrol's out for a maiden flight. The fact is that included in this "pricy" tail product from SK, you actually also get the alu tail blade holders, which in it self has a "value". It's really excellent built quality overall.

I've installed the SK 3 bladed tail rotor head on the standard Robbe Cuatro shaft and can confirm that it fits like a charm. Running 115mm RotorTech asymmetric blades. I will test fly and probably test 105mm tail blades, just to get the extra ground clearance.

Looks pretty good, good quality. Not sure about the RotorTech coating on the blades though. I must admit that the airfield I fly from here in Portugal is gravel and not a hint of grass, which I would much prefer, so maybe there no way around tail blade damages.
