the one guy drilled him in the back then let him up. Maybe afraid of getting tased by contact??? Plus they knew they had a restaurant full of people with phones just DIEING for them to shoot the guy so they could get their 5 minutes of fame. I think they showed unreal restraint.

Chicago's Labor Day weekend:

6 killed and 30 wounded from gunfire.

A toddlers head was found floating in a lagoon.

Nice going Chicago.

pretty sad to see violence prevail.

Lotus 7- please tell me about your law enforcement experience. Have you ever tried to actually HANDCUFF anyone? If you had- you wouldnt ask your question.

If that guy was in your house,or attacking your wife, mom or other family member what would you do?

Do you have Taser training? Or training on the use of force? Our Agency required anyone using a taser or pepperspray to actually experience what it feels like- no simulation, the real deal. Its not a fun day.

Its easy to criticize and alittle harder to actually swear an oath and wear a badge. They cant NOT take action. They arent fluffy bedroom handcuffs- its for real. Ive been there and done that. There are 36 pieces of titanium holding my spine together and permanent neurological damage that reminds me everyday what its like to fight for my life. Everybody has an opinion Not everyone is qualified to be objective.

Whoa ! I asked a straight forward question and you hit me with a diatribe of retorts ?
And no, I did not have any law enforcement training , hence my question.

Lotus 7- my apologies. The anti police rhetoric as of late has made me become quite critical of criticism about the use of force.

To honestly answer your question, handcuffs by design place the wrists together- to apply them on someone vigorously resisting is very hard. Regardless of your strength the person resisting has a leverage advantage. unfortunately the area " to work" for a lack of a better turn is tight and even with 2 strong cops its flat out tough. Plus if the subject was to get loose with only one cuff attached, you have essentially armed someone with a chunk of steel on a chain to beat you senseless.

That said, I have actually had to demonstrate the process to civilians that had the same question. A small petite women that is determined to resist is a match for ANY cop regardless of training.

Further, with the presence of meth, designer drugs and other intoxicants subjects are strong beyond belief.Use of non- lethal weapons are issued to create compliance. You have no right to resist arrest. Escalating force is frequently viewed as brutality when it is not the case.

Well, that is an example of how non lethal tools, that would completely incapacitate most individuals-DIDN'T work on this guy. I dont know what there rules and regs are- many Agencies dictate that the taser is emplyoyed prior to an impact weapon like a baton. I would love to see the guys toxicology report- he did not respond to pain- thats the issue. Bum rushing him in a restaurant is a big risk- he may have had a weapon of some sort, he could attempt to disarm an officer during the struggle.

My first concern would be getting away from the public inside. He was given very clear verbal commands. The first taser attempt did not appear to effect him.I believe one of the two darts fired by the taser and their respective leads either failed to stay hooked or were broken. He was not fazed by the baton and he was not substantially effected by the pepper spray. The last contact with the taser seemed to work and at that point he was handcuffed.

IMO, they showed great restraint. He was never struck in any vital area-ie the head. They successfully contained him and prevented him from attacking or taking a patron hostage. No firearm was unholstered. Unfortunately, without the non lethal weapons- the only way to secure him was direct physical force. Damned either way.

Individuals have been shot multiple times and not incapacitated and were able to harm others- later to die from their wounds after the damage is done. Its not like TV. That is a dynamic situation, yet you must adapt and take him into custody. Some view it as brutality- others may feel the cops should have acted even faster.

Overall,no patrons or cops got hurt, the suspect was not severely injured( again yet another condition some would argue) and taken into custody. Remember, there are people that are active in the mixed martial arts, experts with edged weapons etc.,if you get into a throw down street fight you ARE going to get hurt. Its not about fighting fair. If you are ordered to cease and desist/ fail to respond to verbal commands- the use of force is authorized and the police MUST act. Unfortunately force escalation is a risky business. Not everything works like textbooks...or lawbooks.

Now just imagine dealing with him yourself? If that doesnt scare you,Im afraid you overestimate your abilities. This shows the thing cops face everyday. Its easy to get on the whatever lives matter bandwagon. Let that guy show up on your doorstep- what do you do?If he grabs you kid- what do you do? I cant find any fault here.

Police are part of the SYSTEM and enforce the laws of the ELITE it's their job. I just hope they will use their own brain when it comes to morality and not blindly follow orders.

It's the price we pay for letting others do the thinking for us.

personally I am apathetic towards them, mostly they are good people trying to do good things unfortunately they work for the system which uses them to coerce people into obeying their laws.

I know a retired cop, he lives next door to me, I once asked him about these people that can not stay out of trouble, and he said. "it's simple, most of those people are crazy, we arrest them 5> 10 times and the judges let them out, their just crazy"
