Castle on 380
Bought a new Goblin 380 running a quatum 2820-880 motor with mks 92a cyclic and align tail servo..Put a CC 100 lite on it,it spools up then looses power..tried it several times..Told CC at IRCHA,they gave me a new one..It worked for a couple flights..Then it died in air and crashed..Now no power to motor or receiver..Put the castle link on it and the link gets hot..Called Castle and they said probably burn the bec...Should 5 amps be enough to power 4 servos?they are not hv..

No the internal bec is not enough for the servos i would recommend an external bec. at least 10 amps or more.

I have a 380 with a Castle Edge 100 Lite in it. I am using the internal BEC at 8.4V with 3 RJX micro HV cyclic servos and a BK mini tail servo. I have over 100 flights on it with no problems whatsoever so in my case the internal BEC is working just fine.Phil

It's weird they recommend a cc on the Heli but not enough power for bec... Don't want the extra weight for a external, so I may look for another esc...

U will gain more weight running a talon vs adding a external cc bec I m running the 380 on the internal bec with bk servos n a jr tags mini ?? More then enough bec for mini servos ?? What's ur draw ?? May be use a old 4 cell nicad Rx pack n add in a multi meter n measure ur amp draw. Some thing tells me ur binding a servo some where n it's peaking out ur draw. Cc recommends a airflow over the esc/bec to cool it what type of conditions wer you flying in ?? Was it right into ur second back to back flight or ffirst flight a minute in ? We're you hovering inverted ??Trex600n,Trex500,MR25,MikadoLoGo5003d/KDE,Goblin 380XNova,CastleCreations,Ys,JR XG8,Tags Mini XBus Dmss//FAA# FA3NYC9TAP

some flight stabilization modules are more power hungry than others as well. I use cc 75 lite and the 10 amp cc bec with almost identical servos as yours and the external bec is a must. I hear good things about the new 60 amp hobbywing esc its internal bec is more than capable. I myself love the logging feature of the cc esc's so i choose to stick with the 75 lite and the 10 amp bec. Good luck with whatever you decide. these 380's are awesome little machines.

Talon 90 here. HV all around. Quantum motor. Tight fit on ESC, but it works great. Love this little guy...

Keep in mind that HV servos draw less current for the same amount of work.

A 5A BEC set to 6v will deliver 30W (5a x 6v = 30W)
A 5A BEC set to 8.4 will deliver 42W.

Another way to look at it is:
If your servos / FBL combination uses around 35W, then setting the BEC voltage to 6v will stress the BEC because it is trying to pull 5.8A.

With the same setup (assuming they are HV servos), setting the BEC to 8.4v is well below the BEC max (4.1A), so no stress.

Just like your brushless motor, watts = work
+ > ÷
Believe 1/2 of what you see and none of what you hear.
Fake News will be the downfall of our Republic!
