I have seen little mentions of problems with parts.

But has Thunder Tiger announced they are going outta business or giving up on helis??

Classifieds are full of guys dumping their kits.

**I apologize for putting this in the main forum, but I have asked this question and no one wants to give a legitimate answer.

Should I dump my hanger?!?!?

I'm not sure the best way to link you to a specific post... just do a search here for the word "HRP" (the new US distributor) and you'll get the basics.

The recent announcement is pretty grim, in part because they are discontinuing a lot of helis, but at another level because the assurances for parts supply for the remaining supported helis (including E700) is pretty weak, and in some posts refers to 5 weeks to get the parts flow rolling. This came on the heels of many, many weeks of "just around the corner" talk that damaged credibility. Parts trickle in, no crash kits, significant price increases, etc. Dealers and HRP seem to be caught out by TT and are doing their best to support customers.

There is some talk about leftover parts, there is an option to order from TT Taiwan via their ebay presence (skyhobby or skyhobbies) or from "Icy." There is also conjecture that TT is happy to take the full price of parts this direct way, outside of their distribution chain, to optimize the $$ they have left to squeeze out of this business.

As for what to do, it's not terribly clear and surely differs per person. If I can get parts to keep my E700 flying, I'll do so until a new 700 I'm waiting for becomes available (and proven out) and I'll move the electronics over and put my E700 leftovers into the used/nib parts market at that time.

If I have a major crash, and can't find parts (lower frames, main gears getting pretty scarce, no crash kits in MONTHS) I may jump ship earlier.

It's hard to know what's best for you, how long you can comfortably let your Raptor(s) sit waiting for parts, etc.

But one thing is 100% clear to me: I won't be recommending anybody buy a new or used E700 or any other TT heli at this point.

oops, bounced it!

A few folks have been telling a bunch of lies.
BUT, wait until next month......
As if "they don't know" what they are producing in their own factory.
And "they don't know" what they packed and shipped.
"We're not sure............????"
As if HRP and TT can't pick up the telephone and communicate.
Really?

I asked the Thunder Tiger guys them self i dont trust distributors when it comes to this.

They told me that nitro model are discontinued and they will only support the newer electric models up to E700 in the future.

Due to environment issues.

The last one got me cracking Its a shame I love the Raptor nitro machines

This was posted on the Thunder Tiger website, a few days after the announcement by HRP that only 3 models would be supported.

"Thank you very much for your faithful supports in the past years. Because Heli market changes, we are obliged to discontinue some helicopters and only keep few main sizes (E700,E550,and E360) of the heli product line.

Although some helicopters are discontinued, we are going to produce limited quantity of parts for them, and the parts quantity can satisfy market demand at least 3 years. For the active heli like E700, E550, E360, Thunder Tiger promise all parts will be available to customers all the time. If you have any demand of the heli parts, please feel free to contact us for the availiablity. We will do our best to meet your demand.
At the same time, we offers a Trading Program for users who want to change the discontinued heli to active heli. Please contact your local dealer to get this program".

Let's get on the Merry go round, Again....

Should you dump?

Will you have more fun flying until the parts actually do run out, or more fun selling for dirt cheap?

+1

Fly the heck out of it until it crashes. Then just bin the kit. You'll get more enjoyment out of the heli than you'll ever get from the MAYBE $75 you get for the kit sale.

Not sure how many kits you have but might be able to consolidate for parts support.

I've seen EVERY brand listed in the classifieds and EVERY brand with a post that says "are people selling off their XYZ?" Just fly them.

Yeah, that's the post that matters. The "5-6 weeks" part was the kicker for me, but "environment issues" is the new topper.

Man I didn't understand this until I read this

I'm utterly blown away. Another big name going down the toilet.

Reminds me of the Hirobo debacle. When info is shadowy it spells bad stuff.

Ten or fifteen years ago, Thunder Tiger was on top of the heap. There were many a thread here, all titled "which helicopter should I buy?" where the resounding answer was "Buy the Raptor." At fun flies, all you would see was TT Raptors.

Those days are gone. TT didn't really keep up with the times, and latching onto Great Planes as their US distributor did them no favor. Great Planes is the place where popular brands go to die.

TT's business model seems to believe they can hang on with a narrow niche of the electric market and perhaps dribble out a handful of parts to keep the old Nitros up and running. Good luck with that.

Kyosho at least dropped all support for its helis instead of stringing people along for another three years. Soon after support dropped, they completely disappeared from the US market. They are still around, although in NeoQuest, the line lives on. But not in the US market.

So, I'll start worrying about parts for my G4.1s around the end of 2017.

Got it.

If things change, what can I do about it anyway?

I will keep flying mine until I can't, then I'll move on.

So far parts have not been an issue.

As much as I would love to have a G4.1...I pass. Even if Thunder Tiger changed their minds and made a comeback tour...nope, I'm done. I've been stung too many times.
