The other option is to use a jumper and fly 6S at 1/2 your governed 12S head speed.

Nice looking bird! I love my E5SS

Please note if you are using a jumper and have set RPM/Governor setup the helicopter will try to maintain the highest head speed it can. While this is still low head speed the RPM is going to be higher than you think not half of say 2100, it would be more like 1400 vs 1050. The jumper gives you a nice taste of what low head speed is though.

Right, is not exact but it does let you fly low head speed without stressing your ESC by running it at a low percentage throttle.

Quick question,
there are 12 tooth pinions listed for the E5 and the E7. Is one a 6mm bore and the other 5mm?, or just different heights and both 6mm?

305-012H is the hard coat version versus the standard 305-012 aluminum pinion. The Hard coat version is newer and wears very well. It's what I run on my regular stretch.

Both are 6mm bore Gary. Both are the same part number between the E7SE and E5 as well.

It's definitely worth going with the hard coated version, IMHO.

Thanks for the replies and PM's everyone. I got everything ordered yesterday so I'll be "following in Ben's and others' footsteps" so to speak" with an E5-700. Of course my power system and electronics will vary greatly from the norm, as they usually do. I'm looking forward to this machine!

Got mine in the air yesterday. 6 flights, the first couple were roughing in the setup. CGY750, hacker 400kv turnado, 12/121 gearing, talon 120, 715 vblades and 116 rail tailblades. using 12S/5500 flightpowers but want to try 4350's. telemetry alert set for 4000mah used, and flying a mix of 1350/1550/1750 it's going between 12 and 13 minutes. Would be down around 10 minutes with the 4350's but almost 3/4 lb lighter. goes like hell at 1750, 3D's at 1350 extremely well (smooth 3D, not smack of course). 14/14 pitch and 10.5/10.5 cyclic. Need to go long balls on inner swash to get cyclic up a bit.In really fast flight the nose starts coming up if you get greedy on pitch, just not enough for the gyro to work with at that rpm with the speed it has. At 12 degrees cyclic it keeps the nose down but that requires 80 on the swash afr in the cgy, and it really should stay at 70 or below. motor landing between 120 and 125 farenheight and the talon 120 highest I saw is 107 with temp gun. Timing at 10 degrees and PWM at 24Khz. castle gov has issues with the wide rpm range setups and the higher timing and highest pwm help a little. Have a phase sensor in it, so plan to use cgy governer but wanted to play with the castle governer again and try the other modes to experiment again. set rpm not great with the wide rpm range setups when in low rpm mode but haven't ever tried gov high and gov low, so plan to do that. bls251 on tail and 3470's on swash. Yes, 3470's are advertised as car servos, but they've proven to work well on my "old fart" heli setups. Usign 8V fromt alon BEC the torque is fine, they're very precise, and they're an ounce lighter each than what's commonly used on helis. 3 ounces saved on the heli is not insignificant <G>.

Did get a little video on the 4th flight. Josh recorded on his phone, but I haven't got it off his phone yet. It's short, at only 6 minutes, which was 2070mah into the pack, but he started complaining about holding his phone any longer <G>.

Here's a little clip. I have it a bit more dialed in now, and using a different mode for the governer that is working a touch better. Also have some 4350 packs on order. The 12S/5500's work fine, but they're a touch large so threading the velcro straps through is a bit finicky. I'm also only flying to 4000mah used (capacity telemetry alert) and flight times using a mix of rpms are going longer than needed(12 to 13 minutes). Should still get over 10 minutes from the 4350's flying to 80% usage, and will lose 3/4 lb in the process. Well, that's actually a bit of an exaggeration, 3/4 lb would be 12 ounces and it will only be 11.7 ounces lost <G> with the lighter packs

finally got out to try the 4350's today. I now have a 12S 700 machine that's 9 lbs 16 ounces (because that sounds better than 10 lbs )

Was able to go down to 1230 in low rpm mode and maintain plenty of collective feel. Tail works wonderfully at this weight at 4.9 gearing and 116's. The best news is the weight seemed to more than make up for the lost capacity. 12 minute flights with about 2/3 low rpm and 1/3 high rpm (1750), landing after telemetry alarm alerted to 3400mah used. with 3/4lb weight loss it flies even better throughout the full flight envelope.

I can believe it flies that well because mine is like air on 7S @ 8.8lb. I'll never own a heavy model again.
