Need help~~ Telemetry setup!
Hello

I am new to telemetry and am asking for your advice on what is needed for a proper setup.

What I am flying>

Align 700L Dom Top
Align 600EFL Pro
DX9 Spektrum
Mikado silverline Vbar's with Spek Sat's

I am interested in flight pack Voltage to start off with.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks

Brandon

You've posted in the Jeti section, so I assume you don't want to use your DX9's telemetry. If that's the case, I'd use a MUI. It'll give you voltage, amp draw, and MAH consumed, everything you need for an electric Heli.

If you're not flying a Jeti radio, you'll also need a Profi and a receiver to hook the sensor into.

If you want to just use what you've already got, you need a TM1000 or TM1100 from Spektrum. It'll give you voltage but none of the other neat stuff. But for the massive price difference, it's probably a better choice.

DIFFERENCES
(1) TM1100 has a shorter range than the TM1000.
(2) The TM1100 is smaller than the TM1000, so the TM1100 may offer an advantage where space/room is tight.
3) Only the TM1000 has the X-Bus port. If one is interested in getting GPS, altimetry, speed, G-force, etc data beyond the RPM/temp/volts and antenna fades/losses/holds, the TM1000 is the choice.

I ran a tm1100 on a few helis and never had an issue with range. Even if you fly outside of it, the data accumulates and updates when it comes back in so you don't really miss anything.Nick Crego

Thanks for all the great info. I do plan to use my DX9. Should I make the post in the spektrum section? I thought this was the telemetry section.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it. You got the answers you were looking for. This is specific for the Jeti radio system (with telemetry), that's probably why you didn't get answers quickly with Spektrum stuff.Nick Crego

I will prob go with the TM1000. That seems to be a good set up. Will It work ok with the Vbar and the two sats plugged into Vbar?

It'll work fine. You won't have signal telemetry but you'll get voltage and anything else you plug into it.Nick Crego

I use Jlog with Kontronik ESC's. I didn't see what ESC your using. If your using Castle the Jlog doesn't work properly with it so you won't want it. The best thing for telemetry is miliamps used. This way you can set an alarm at 3000mamps and use that instead of a timer. This way your flight times are adjusted to how hard you fly. Your easier flights will have a better flight time. the second great item to track is amperage. You can see how your driving your ESC. PWM is also good to track.I did not have good success with Spectrum telemetry, but its been several years since I tried thiers. The perfect combination for a Jlog setup is Kontronik ESC and a Jeti radio. You will become spoiled if you get on this setup.Logo 800, 700, 690 & 400, Gaui NX7, NX4 & X4II, Whiplash 700's, Mostro 700E's, Goblin 570, Jeti Air Force DS-16

I've read that Castle and jLog don't cooperate as well. However, I was at the field today with a friend with a jLog on his Ice 120HV and it was working perfectly with his DS16. Charging up afterwards his MAH consumed were as close as my Mezon is. As luck would have it, my Mezon 130 went up in flames on my Goblin and it's getting an Edge 160HVF as a replacement (Mezon will go to a plane). Trying to decide if it's getting a jLog, MUI, or Unisens-e. Can't go without the consumption telemetry after having it for a year and a half.Nick Crego

I'm running the CC edge 160. Does the TM1000 do mAh used? Or just volts. Thanks for all the info on this topic. Lots to think about here.

Spektrum has their own sensor to give you consumption, or at least they've announced it. Should be fine with the tm1000, that's their telemetry boxNick Crego

Spooled, I've got a TM 1000 that has been sitting on my shelf for over 2 years. I would give it to you if you want it. I'd only ask for the shipping cost. I'm not much help on the Castle telemetry, even tough I came up using the dx7, dx8, and dx9. Back when I tried it they didn't have voice capabilities, and it wasn't worth looking down for the limited data. Spektrum didn't have graphing capabilities either, so it was useless for me. I don't remember seeing a graph option (data analyzer) on my dx9. I use this a lot. I came to rely on Jlog and the Jeti Data Analyzer, which have taught me a lot about my machines power consumption, along with seeing the reliability of my BEC's, along with PWM, head speed, FET temps. I even use a CVS 16 on one heli which monitors cell voltage. To me this one isn't important other than to see your pack quality, which you can do by checking your packs when you land. I could be wrong though. If you used cell voltage on a graph along with the rest of the data, you might see a problem more easily. I haven't had the CVS 16 long enough to know.

I have now switched all but 2 of my Helis to Kontronik so that I can have Jlog work properly.

Duty, that's good to hear. I started a post a while back asking if anyone had success with Jlog and Castle. I talked at length with Danny at Demon Aero about this. He also felt that it was a hit and miss probability. I bought a harnes from him to try in my Goblin, and am now convinced to try it. I have no expectations so there's nothing to lose. I'll let you know what happens.
