Obstacle course
I think 3D flying is cool but I am not at that level right now. However I have been talking to some of the guys that are flying scale models like running a simple pylon course but there are some other ideas of what real helicopters do.

I am actually interested in an obstacle course that had a heli come in over a burning "smoke bomb" in a multiple level building with a tethered grappling hook and pick up a stretcher with toy person in it and then drop it in a safe zone.

Then like they do with war birds have a heli come in and drop a bomb/projectile into a 2'x2' box. No hovering, in and out.

Small pool with water in it, heli has small cup attached on a tether and comes in drops cup in water then drops the water on another simulated fire using smoke bomb to simulate the fire and give points for accuracy and time.

Any other ideas that could be kind of cool?

Not sure if I like the idea of a tether or a cable of any kind hanging off the bottom of a heli. That's just asking for a bad crash especially if it's swinging with a weight attached to the bottom.

Dangers aside, I think stuff like that could be a lot of fun at fun fly events, especially since anyone from the Smack3D guys to the novices could do it.

It's more interesting than the boring F3C set maneuvers for sure.

The tether could have a break away at a certain # ounces/pounds. But for get that, what other ideas do you have for a skill obstacle course other than flying through hula hoops.

In terms of safety, something easy that anyone can do without having to risk their $$$ helicopter could be drag-racing or relay racing.

Have teams race to a point, turn around, and land before the second team member can take off and come back.

Should be fun, and relatively low risk, with a low requirement for high skill

Even if you used dental floss, any cable could very easily wrap around a spinning shaft and cause a crash. Breakaways would not help.
