The guys flying planks at my field seem to be migrating toward these little evolution 10 and 15 gas engines. They have ok power, cheap operation, and endurance. Wonder if we will see this in helis.

Who knows? Maybe we will. As long as reliablility, tunability and power are there, then why not?

I know there are still guys out there with an itch for something that burns dead dinosaurs and if nitro really is fading into the background, then why not replace it with something that can operate cheaper and better hopefully?

I know I don't plan on giving up my nitros anytime soon.

What happened to the HELI world in 3 years?

Heck, I'm still stunned thinking what happened to OUR world in 3 years?

Smartphones
Self driving cars
Robotics
Drones
NSA
Massive deficit spending
transgender
Social media
Elimination of cash
Negative interest rates
National health insurance
Bail-ins
Corruption
Disconnected millenials
Troublesome tv content
Body art
Three-wheeled motorcycles
Ecological disaster - animal die-off
Legal pot
War against...fill in the blank
Cats and dog living together

et al

But it's all good. All part of His plan. So I guess the short answer to the original question is be thankful we still have helis...lol.

Thanks for the updates and insight. Sorry if I started a debate. I was simply shocked at how nitro helis seem to have evaporated, from a standpoint of seeming scarce and mostly absent from my old standbys.

As far as planes and helis go, I enjoy the mechanical aspect of nitro engines. That will be my preference as long as I have a choice, but I'm not opposed to flying electric when the time comes. I'll probably still have a pretty good time, in fact.

Thanks again for the help!

I know for me, its a matter of logistics with no fuel carrying shop for hours in all directions. Not paying for shipping either. So a "forced" transition to elec. That's ok, headed that way for a while with all my cars being elec. No fuel support equipment any more. Gas makes sense if I really want to do that and I can get a Freya Gasser, but for now, their elecs and those converted do it for me. Electric really came on strong, not like FBL, but close!!! LOLStill no problems, only solutions, governed by MARSHALL AMPLIFICATION. I'm a HIROBO Fan, R U?

but OS stopped making the 37 nitro engine
Actually that is not true. OS is still making the 37 SZ-H. Our friends at Great Planes have simply quit importing and selling them in the US. I wrote an email to OS in Japan this past January and asked the question directly. Their answer simply stated it was still being produced and sold.

I suspect the OS 91 is still around, as well. Just that the Evil Empire doesn't believe we are worthy.

This would be the current OS production status:

All that nitro smoke makes me sticky. If the winds aren't blowing and all that smoke lingers, I go home feeling like I'm coated in gunk. The smell and sound is still something I enjoy...but I can no longer deal with that sticky gunky feeling. Really like the cleanliness of gas and electrics over nitro.Gassers Rule, Nitros Drool, Electrics...uhhh...Joule?

Tell ya one thing, way too many Goblins. Lots of businesses fell victim to the rotten economy because the average joe has less disposable income and time. Now the businesses that remain offer every color and size as long as it's a Goblin.

I will tell you what happened... well my opinion only.

The hobby which at one time took some skill, ability to build, and the challenge to learn to fly has changed.

It has now become a commodity market with the drones, quads, or whatever you want to call it.

It's the "instant" market now! There is no desire anymore to build something and spend a lot of time learning to fly it!

People now want "instant gratification". That is they want to buy it, plug it in, and fly it! They have NO TIME to spend making a hobby out of it!

Alas.... technology caused this and no offense but I saw it coming...

The companies that make products that are a real hobby cannot compete when no one buys!

It's sad really... I loved it. Maybe one day a resurrection of a TRUE hobby will come back.

I do love to see real people flying real Heli's that took time, love, patience, and a desire to do it! I am sure that won't be gone forever but for sure due to sales... we won't have the huge selection of products we had before.
