My new Synergy N7 turbine flies
Just a quick update, I flew my turbine powered N7 today for the first time. I flew it twice and did not get to do much other than hover due to my location and the fact that I am still checking things out. I did have one flameout, but that was not a problem, but needs to be investigated. The helicopter weighs in at about 12 lbs empty and 14 lbl 5 ozs with full fuel. Just in a hover and flying with a head speed of around 1500, it flew for over 14 minutes.

Great job!

What is the red/green fire bundle on the left rear? May want to add another zip tie. Pretty close to the main gear.

Keep us posted on the flights.

Cheers

Thanks, the wires are for the fuel pump and they are close but pretty secure. I may move the fuel pump up a little or re-route the wire to have a little more play and then add some more support.Team Synergy, Team Scorpion, No good deed goes unpunished

Just under 12lbs empty and 14lbs 5oz with full fuel. I have not done much more than hover, but the cg is good and does not seem to cause any issues as the tank empties. Being I have only done some initial test hovering, the head speed was between 1500 and 1600 and I got 14 minutes without going into to hopper tank. I know it will drop when I take the head speed up.Team Synergy, Team Scorpion, No good deed goes unpunished

By the way, I did re-route the fuel pump wire so it is no longer close to the main gear.Team Synergy, Team Scorpion, No good deed goes unpunished

When I get over the flameout from the other day. I have flown it a couple more times in the past two days working with higher head speeds. I flew a tank through tonight at about 1750 head speed and got almost 10 minuted, not doing any 3D. I am limited how much I can do here at the house, a lot of trees, fences, animals and power lines. I am doing shakedown flight mostly. I am also trying to zero in the BD 3Sx on it. Dan, are you running an opening in the bottom of the canopy for air? I put a good sized one on my canopy and am still thinking of going a little bigger.Team Synergy, Team Scorpion, No good deed goes unpunished

No, I have flown it with and without a canopy and can notice no difference. Maybe when I make it to summer it will be necessary.Team Synergy, Team FBL Rotors-------if its not broke...it will be!

N7 Turbine
I have a N7 that I want to convert.

It is in Nitro form now but plan to make it a long term project.

Any advice? Would you do it again with all the work required.

Would you be taking it to IRCHA?

Thanks and great looking machine!!!!

Would do it again in a heartbeat! Dycocker did one with the stock frames, I made new frames. The turbine is a little wide for the stock front frames and they must be spaced out and the front landing gear support has to be heavily modified to clear as well. Also, the most important part is for you to decide how much fuel you want to carry. If you want more than about 4 minutes you will need larger/additional tanks. It really depends on what you want. I lowered the landing gear some to allow for the larger tank and to not have to cut the front gear support. The rear frame was built to accept a 40oz. tank, which gives me almost 10 minutes flight time at 1750. I really wanted to bring it to IRCHA, but I have commitments here that week. By next year I'm sure there will be other designs. I could sell you a very nice Airstar Jetcopter. 😗Team Synergy, Team Scorpion, No good deed goes unpunished
