Can you change a fly bar to fbl by just changing swash plate and up?
I have 2 old flybar kits was wondering if I changed the swashplate and everything above to a dfc or fbl. On a trex 700 would work. With the old style control rods, elevater setup, thanks

Yes. Sometimes you can even use the original head with modification.

It would probably be cheaper in the long run to find a good used FBL airframe, shouldn't have to pay more than $200-$300 for a like-new airframe.Team Synergy Factory Specialist / Scorpion / Thunder Power / Byron's Fuels

Try not to get caught in the weeds...he can save a lot of money and pain buying a used FBL bird over buying head components.

It's the lower cost and easier option.

Sell FB. Buy used FBL. Probably 50-100$ cost.

Vs.

Keep FB. Research proper conversions. Buy FBL parts. Probably closer to $200 plus more wrenching.

That it's probably less expensive to buy a used current gen airframe that already has the FBL head than spending time and money upgrading an older heli.

The op will get a newer heli that was designed for flybarless flight, better CG, parts support, probably lighter, etc, etc.

Align has FBL head setup with the swash-follower, that's all is needed for the conversion [used one sells for 50-75 bucks], actually only the FBL grips [wider arms] with 2 link-rods & swash-follower are needed for converting existing FB

If you really love the Heli, then it might be worth the switch, if it is something that is available in FBL already, then sell and buy one already set up. I converted my Fury and my Spectra because these have been great helis and they were not worth much if I tried to sell them. I did use a whiplash main shaft on the spectra to lower the head and it looks better. Both machines fly great and other than the FBl unit, it cost about $100 each to switch them over.Team Synergy, Team Scorpion, No good deed goes unpunished

No I did not mean that your getting junk if you buy a used head. runryder is a great place to buy and sell. I meant if you have a heli in good condition why would you pull the head and sell it?

If you do decide to buy a FBL head, remember to make sure your OLD servos are up to the job.. In a FB system, there are mixer arms in the system which multiply the 'torque' driving the blades. A FBL head will eliminate one of these, which could blow-out servo gears. A new set of higher torque & faster servos may be necessary.
It is possible to mod a FB head, to eliminate the fly-bar teetering assembly, and re-mount the mixer arm mounting screws rigidly to the head block. As long as there is enough resolution to configure the FBL unit, this works fine with lower torque servos. BUT getting that mount location correct can be challenging.
I did this to an X-50, it was so simple, I'm still flying it this way with a Beast X.
