I'm not going for the same reason as every other year. It's really far, and I'm not sure what I'd get out of it.

I wouldn't go for flying. I can fly at the field 20 minutes away from me, and get way more flying in a day at my local field than I ever could at a venue like IRCHA.

I wouldn't go to buy anything. Driving that far would cost hundreds in fuel, and offset ANY savings in merchandise.

Many would go to mingle. But that's not my thing.

The only thing I'd miss is maybe seeing some of the pros I look up to fly. I'd like to see Nick Maxwell fly sometime. But I also have a feeling there will one day be a more local venue.

Honestly, if it were an hour away, I might drop in. But 1000 miles? Nah. I'll catch the coverage highlights and get the scoop from RR.

Best of luck and be safe to all who go!

If you want your type of accommodations at the NATs, best reserve at least 6 mos before...

I stayed in Anderson a few years back. The daily commute was a little longer, but not bad at all.

why dont they change the location every year like the Superbowl... kinda seems unfair to those that live on the west coast...

might help to revive it and attract new pilots and vendors.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

RM3,
Why don't you contact the guys that run IRCHA and see if they can start one on the left coast? I am sure that there are a lot of heli guys out there that would attend.

That pretty much says it for me.

I get a lot of flying in when the others are gone...
and I can fly for two 10-12 hour days instead of driving.

Well I can understand it being too far for some people. I just have a somewhat skewed viewpoint, being a truck driver. So the 207 miles from my house doesn't even get a bit of notice out of me. Heck, planning on attending Joe Nall next year if everything goes as planned, and that's around 750mi from me. Plus I drive a full size van, and camp in that to save hotel fees. This will be my 9th year in a row, and it would take a death in the family or something to keep me from it. Even if I don't fly, for me it's fun hanging around with people I've met, seeing all the cool new stuff the vendors bring, and getting to see most or all of the best pilots in the world do their thing.

Fix the speaker system.. You can't sit centerstage without being overwhelmed by the volume. The people working the sound system are @sses that could care less about the general public. You can't enjoy the demos or factory giveaways because you need go protect your hearing.. Get rid of the dumb @ss positioning the speakers and pay a professional that respects people...

We all know it's done very poorly... Do it right!!!

I am not planning to attend either. Why?

I've just sort of had my fill of it. It's just too "busy" of an atmosphere for me anymore. Too many people. I love watching the pros fly, and seeing some familiar faces, but some of the folks I most enjoy seeing are too busy to talk. So screw it. I am not buying anything, just maintaining, and have already spent too much for this year, LOL.

Also, it used to be a terrific time to meet up with my Dad there. We live in Michigan, he's about 2.5 hrs from Muncie in Indiana, so it was nice. But this year, it would be virtually impossible for him to make the trip due to health reasons. So, if I don't go, he won't feel he's missing us.

Go see your dad. Just bypass IRCHA and go see him. You won't regret it. If and when you do? Give him a hug for me and everybody else who can't hug theirs anymore. Take care and prayers for his health.

Actually, we will be together next weekend for my daughter's graduation. So, we make times to be together. I'd just rather he not feel he's missing out if we were to go and he unable to. So, we will make a time to get together down there for some flying at his local field, as he can then be pretty relaxed. He is on dialysis. Last couple of years, he could do it at the hotel early and late. This year, he on the night time cycler machine. It's better for him, but not so much for travel yet. Maybe next year, but not this year. Thanks for your thoughts!!

One thing for sure at IRCHA it is a long day. I have gone three times and have had enough of the lousy heat there. The first Time I went I think that the temp was about 101 degrees. Just too hot to enjoy for me.
