Do the conversion - mm to thou". On a banged up fan, you're not doing too bad!

Also that video is one rubbish way to check for rotational run out..

Enough from me..

Thanks Geo,

I ordered some parts from a retailer in Denmark, they seem to have a lot of Miniature parts, with live stock levels.

http://www.hirobo-rc-helicopter.com...parts-11s1.html

I ordered a few bits to see how they were and they were brilliant, even refunding some of my postage as they decided to send it in padded and strengthened letter.. They emailed me to tell me this along with other parts I asked for..

It is nice to deal with people who answer your emails within a reasonable time..
I sent a list to Germany over a week ago and have heard nothing..

As I am after the following parts

121 - 8
121-11
121-22

I want these New.. not crashed or used..

I also orderd a full set of bearings and screws from
http://www.rcscrewz.com/index2.php/...dfd85b202cdb940

good price with free shipping to UK..

HI All

I am still have tail drift problems, sometimes it is worse than others then another.

I have tried the mounting Gel someone recommended, I have also tried other foam and special foam for high vibe situations.

Nothing has worked, so tonight I have gone back to mounting it as per manual..

I just wondered how you guys have your Gyro's mounted on a stratus.

Matt,

It's going to drift there. Try to get the sensor away from the high rpm driveline. The whole model is a vibration fest even in a perfect world because of the way the engine is mounted. I made a custom mount and actually put mine on the side of the frames out back. I also had drift issues by mounting under the battery tongue, so tread lightly there. Use several layers of tape with the metal plate in between as a stabilizer (in this case not as a shield). The Kyosho Zeal gel remains an excellent mounting option as well.

Understand that there are cases where a 502/601/611 will still drift on you. The ultimate solution may be for you to separate your rudder trims, set the trim increment to 1, always boot the system up with zero trim BUT trim the model as needed in any and all other flight conditions. YES, you can trim an AVCS tail this way. IF the tail won't hold straight with needed trim and requires more during the flight, then the sensor is likely bad. These days you can pick up a used single axis gyro for peanuts.

Lovely

Thanks Doc, as it is doing my head in..

I guess the only real way to go is to make up a custom mount and mount at the rear..

It is the only thing that is disappointing me about the Stratus..

I loved and flew many hours on my tempest but after a short whilst pulling a split S I wrote off the machine and went for the stratus as the servo layout is better than the fury..

But even on the fury I had a tail drift and could never work out what it was, I spent a lot on new gyro's and new tail servos, but it always came back after a couple of flights..

It was only when someone said it was high frequency vibes that was confusing the gyro sensor that it made sense..

I just wondered why there is not many posts on the stratus when they first came out, as I have looked back both here and on the freak and a google search and no one seems to mention tail drift, was it a problem when they first came out ? as the mount is tiny compared to the surface area of the gyros, and why it is recommended to mount the gyro right near the start shaft as per manual, perhaps a bad design..

Only a couple of threads from early 2000 mention changing the mount to the Gel one.

thanks again for info I will change this over weekend.

Honestly there was/is a lot a quite unfortunate engineering in that model that started with attempting to mount 3hp motor via backplate alone. Historically a lot of mfg have place gyro sensor location based on form and convenience instead of function, and the location on the Stratus was no exception. You have to think outside the box of what was originally specified and do what you know to be right based on experience.

By the way, that model was sold as having perfect fan to driver alignment by the way it went together. Such was assuredly not always the case because the could not hold tight enough QC on the frames. Check the consistency of the gap all the way around with a feeler gauge. If it's off, you'll eat dampers, and the model will vibrate.

Finally, please tell me that that OS in there is not an SZ....

hi again doc,

I have an align 90H, which is an OS.

I will try a new mount and take it form there, if not I will sideline the stratus and look for a fury xtreme as I had no issues with my extreme, I also prefer the engine mounting on the xtreme and never damaged the dampers..

I just sold a gy601 for $30.00. I have a gy611 I would sell for $40, it has the box and manual.

Ahh I just noticed you're in the UK, shipping might be a bit more.

Also, I use to use the zeal gel, and care needs to be taken as I had some issues with rebound movement from the gel, but this creates a bit of a kick and not the drift you're experiencing.

The Align 91 is like an HZ, so no issues there. Let me know how you get along. And you're right; the Extreme driveline was largely trouble free when correctly built.
