Hello everyone, new to helicopters I've just bought a used raptor 90 and would like to set it up as tame as possible, I know it's not a beginners helicopter but am also using a sim, I won't be doing any 3d or fancy flying just basic hover to get started.
So if anyone could help me to get the very basic settings it would be great fully appreciated.
The raptor has a gy611 gyro and a governor I have a spectrum dx8 with receiver os max sx91 nitro
Thanks for looking Boz

Well boz the advice i will give is find a local helicopter club near where you live and then get an experienced heli flyer to check it over and set it up for you .im not familiar with spectrum radios as i fly futaba and vbar control.have a look on the bmfa web site to see if theres one close .the problem with simulator flying is you have to set the sim model up as close to how your model flys, as you cant do that your only learning the basics .happy flying

Startup help
Thanks for that advice, the problem I have is that I work Friday to Monday truck driving away from home, I have been down to the local club house but never yet seen anyone around, I'm going to phone up and ask if anyone would be prepared to look at my raptor.
This is a big ask for someone to take on, being responsible for my bird and not knowing me, the guy that I bought it from said it was ready to fly but that's as an experienced pilot, I would need setting that where more basic.
I had to change the receiver from analogue to an ar8000 so everything would need to be set up from scratch wouldn't it? Or would the settings for the governor and gyro be the same as pre installation?
I admit that I will need the expert to help me sort it out but that may be easier said than done, it's a huge ask.
Would there be anything that I could setup myself?
Thank for looking, boz

At this stage... you would be well served to find a guy that is in the hobby and has been for a while. You have many hurdles to pass over and there are a lot of setup things that you do not know yet. Just because a guy can fly does not mean that he can do setups, or knows anything about your radio and helicopter.

Practice all 4 orientations of hovering in the simulator.

Keep looking for the guy to help you. If other people are going to him for advice, he is probably the guy. Most guys are happy to help a new person get started.

still looking
Well I've contacted my local club, they only have 4 guys who fly helicopters, he secratery is going to put my request to them but as he said " may be difficult" anyway I will wait and see and keep using the sim
I must admit that had I realised just how hard it was before I bought the raptor, I would have bought something more suitable.
What would you guys recommend for me in a used bird?
I say used as could not build one myself, and the rtf are more than I would want to pay to start up,( being monitored by wife, lol)
And as I have spent well over £800 on the raptor and tx £1000+ on my new losi5t plus hopups (still in box) she is thinking that my pre retirement toys are using up more of her shopping cash than is healthy.
Little does she know what all us big boys know is that this is just the start of a spend, spend, spend, hobby and is an addiction we just can't help.
Iwell guys will keep you posted on my ( very slow progress) thanks for looking, boz

Welcome ,,,, Also ask your local hobby shop . There could be someone that flys Helis that is not in the club . Since this is a helicopter with a flybar you can set it up to hover very stable . Good luck

What did he mean, "it might be difficult?" That should be a no brainer for a club. Getting new flyers in and helping them get started should be the basis for all club charters.
