I pulled my muffler today because of it leaking black junk and figured to take some snap shots of the piston. This is after almost 2 gallons of coleman with lawnboy oil. The flash made it look shiny so there is also a pic without the flash. This is a RC240 motor. I was expecting to see it sooty, but this looks clean. Maybe too clean; lean?

I think the plug looks good. Here is the plug I just changed. About a gallon or so on it.

What carb you running?? Maybe richen the low a tad. My Spectra is rich on the low end to the point it struggles or takes it's time to clear it's throat to run up and is smoking on the Penzoil Marine 32:1. I asked Raja about this and he said to leave it. Once running no smoke but I know it ain't lean!

Excellent job, piston looks great. Very light burnishing marks in the photo below which is totally normal and less than some engines at this point. Ring looks like it is seating well, helped by the second gallon of lawn boy. One easy tank on syn and you can start to boost HS to your desired max. I would leave the needles where they are, after 3rd gallon, tweak the needles in.

Yep! I agree with fastflyer20 and turboomni. Richen the low end just a bit, and you will be fine. Your motor is looking great!

Thanks for the info, very informative. I didn't know all that. How can you tell if a ring is seating well compared to being fully seated?

I have done trials and looked at many rings under a microscope broken in with syn and non syn. A ring run only on syn will not be close to broken in at this point and will have a different look to it.

I can attest to that!! Both my gassers took forever to break in with synthetic. I will never do that again!! But they both do run very nice now lol!
