I must say, this was the coolest thing ever! Ever since I started this hobby about 10 years ago I've been fascinated with these machines. Everything about them amazes me I've always thought my dream job would be to fly for a living and I finally got a taste of what it's like. I wouldn't "work" a day for the rest of my life if this was my job!

My father and better half is very supportive of me pursuing my dream, which means the world to me! My father got me a test flight and lesson for Christmas this last winter and I booked the flight for yesterday. My instructor was great! He's been flying since the 70's. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. He said I did very well for a first flight, better than most! I guess that boosted my confidence a bit which helped lol. I'm now scheduling some lessons with him to start the process of getting my license. I can't wait!!

Congrats and follow your dreams. Don't settle for less!
I had two hrs in an R 22. I traded time for time teaching him and his two boys to fly !! The boys caught on but he just got pissed ! He thought it would be easy since he flew the real ones !
I hovered in the first 30 seconds He was amazed. The models translate to the full size well, but not the other way around !!
Enjoy!

That's cool! You're absolutely right, it did. Having the knowledge of how these machines operate and fly really helped me out in the flight...I have to say tho, not as much as I thought lol

A few years ago I would fly rc helis out in Tacoma with a few real chopper pilots from McCord AFB. They all said the same thing....
that flying rc translated to the real thing better that the other way round. Pilots with rc flying experience picked it up much sooner.....but pilots with real flying experience dont pick up flying rc helis as quickly.

I've always thought that RC was harder to pickup due to the fact that the perspective changes as you fly around where as in the real thing you have a constant perspective.

Looks like a death trap

j/k

Have fun and keep us up to date.

Maybe you'd better lie down, eh? Why don't you just lie down until rigor mortis sets in?

It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. Super cool little Heli! I'll keep you all posted on how my next flights go 👍🏼

When I started flying real helicopter, I started in the R-22, but thought it was too small and moved to the R-44 a very nice helicopter. Good luck.

Thanks pal! I had the option to fly the R44 and chose to go in the R22 cause it was smaller and it didn't look as intimidating lol. However, I now wish I chose the R44... They are about 2x the size and more stable.

Thanks for sharing your adventure. If helis are anything like boats, size does matter. Go for the R44 or a Jet Ranger.
