Joel, I can't thank you enough for your help with this project, it would have been nearly impossible with out your mixer.

I have been on vacations here and there and just came back from one of them yesterday so today was heli test day.
I finally figured out the gain that was causing oscillation that looked like cyclic but it was actually the yaw. I turned down the yaw gain to 10% and the cyclic to 40% and the result is shown in this video. Overall it fly's smooth with minor vibes that I think head dampening changes will handle, to be determined. As it is right now it uses 383mA/minute on 12S.

Well that looks a lot better than the first “flight”. Well done!

Maybe a larger flying field next time

Gary,

That’s great!!! I have some O rings you can have if you want to change the dampening. I used them in my SAB heads on my Chinook. I bet they would work for you too.

So cool, congratulations! So strange to see a helicopter fly with no fuselage or tail boom. Looks really great.

Thanks everyone! Getting the heads and swash plates setup exactly the same is critical to getting this thing to fly correctly.

Sandy,
I didn't have time to get everything to the field so the backyard had to work for now. Before I go flying off into the wild blue yonder I have to setup a tail boom so I know which end is forward from far away.

Joel,
Did you use other than stock O'rings in your heads?

Hi Gary,

Yes, I used some other O-rings that I got from Amazon. If you want more dampening than the softest setting in the head, then these O-Rings will help.

That said, I don’t know if you really need more dampening. But if you do, there’s an option. I have a bag of them. So you can take what you need if you want to play.

The trailing edge of the rotor blade at the root would make a little tick at high collective during certain situations.
As you can see it gets close.

To fix this I did what the full size did and made a norrow cord at the blade root which fixes that issue.

I upgraded the gyro to the Axon, just want to see if it is better than the 3sx.

Made a tail boom assembly to expand the flight test envelop so I can see which way is forward from far away.
