Liberals Freak Out Over Proposed Changes to Kansas and Missouri Entitlements

April 4, 2015 By Colleen Conley

The outrage from liberals over perceived racist killer cops and religious freedom have shown the extremes to just how virulent – and violent – they can get in their pursuit of advancing their agenda. Protests, riots, and claims of discrimination have been front page news headlines for months now.

But a new set of bills introduced in Kansas and Missouri this week has got the leftist’s heads spinning like that girl from The Exorcist. Reading their diatribes and comments on posts leaves one with a vision of bread lines and starving children completely deprived of nutritious food and shelter.

This is hardly the case.

In Kansas, Governor Sam Brownback has received a bill to sign which is designed to restrict the types of spending allowed by welfare recipients in the state.

Specifically, the bill places restrictions on where welfare recipients may spend their welfare benefits. Now certain types of business will not be eligible, including liquor stores, fortune tellers, swimming pools and cruise ships. The new law also limits recipients to $25 per day in benefits.

The “Temporary Assistance for Needy Families” (TANF) is a federal program administered at the state level in Kansas as the Successful Families Program. As in 37 other states, the benefits are distributed via a government issued debit card.

The director of the Kansas Action for Children program, Shannon Cotsoradis, said changes by the Brownback administration, including shorter time limits, have already reduced TANF enrollment. According to state data, the number of Kansans receiving benefits has declined from 38,000 in 2011 to 15,000 last year.

Cotsoradis commented that the new limits “add stress to families already experiencing toxic levels of stress.”

No mention is made regarding the level of stress experienced by taxpayers working to support their own children, as well as paying for individuals on entitlement programs who are currently able to use their “debit card” to pay for liquor and fortune tellers. Are those expenditures creating a better life for children living in poverty?

Next door, in Missouri, proposed legislation would ban the purchase with food stamps of “cookies, chips, energy drinks, soft drinks, seafood or steak.”

“The intention of the bill is to get the food stamp program back to its original intent, which is nutrition assistance,” Rick Brattin, the representative who is sponsoring the proposed legislation, told the Washington Post.

Once again, the focus of the left has been to attack the steak and seafood exclusion, and ignore the proposed ban on Doritos, Twinkies, and Pepsi.

One may wonder why Brattin included nutritious foods, “steak and seafood”, on a list of restricted items which are otherwise unhealthy, and he readily admits the wording needs some “tweaking.” But anybody who has worked in a supermarket likely has witnessed the rampant abuse of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program by recipients who purchase luxury items such as sushi, ready-to-cook baked stuff shrimp, and expensive cuts of meat. You know, pricey items that the supermarket workers paying taxes to support SNAP likely cannot afford themselves. Indeed, as a cashier at a grocery store during my high school and college years, I witnessed that kind of abuse regularly, before going home to macaroni for dinner.

Excellent idea for sure.
Except it will then involve doctors, Oh'SuzannaCare, IRS, INS, DEP, ATF, FBI, CIA, NSA, Homeland In-security, etc.

These restrictions would un-duly burden the recipients.

Have you no compassion?

Well, I had a whole well written, right wing conservative post typed up. But it's gone. I deleted it. Because I realized where it came from. It came from me. And upon consideration, I realized, it had nothing I'll be proud of repeating at the gates. So it's gone. He must increase. I must decrease. In my diatribe's place is Luke 14:13

"When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, otherwise they may also invite you in return and that will be your repayment. 13"But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

If this happened more, who'd need welfare?

There are those that truly need our help, and we give them help. They are not the ones screaming for higher minimum wage, nor are they demanding a cell phone, or making a big stink about not being able to buy steak with food stamps.

Then there are those that are lazy, selfish, and work the system for all they can and then complain that it is not enough. They dont want help, they want "things", and they dont want to earn them. They want these things to be given to them.

That sounds kinda like socialism.

The same right wing folks that clutch their bibles tight, absolutely abhor socialism.

Hence the reason the crippled, lame and poor get to sleep in the street.

" Jesus told us they were different so they get to starve. "

HEY... how many trillions of dollars does the Catholic church have ?

Feeding plenty of folks I bet.

Jesus really is a mushroom...just sitting in the dark.

Jesus is probably the most misunderstood person in history.

Luke 6:46 "Why do you call Me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?"

Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.

Jesus commanded charity. Period. Whether it's government mandated, or comes from personal benevolence, I don't care. And neither should you. Either way, His will be done. Getting up in arms about a poor person getting a nice cut of steak? I think we have bigger issues, and it'll be interesting to hear someone explain themselves at the holy gates for preaching that the poor should not receive such. By your own words you'll be judged. Are you confident in them?

Let the beatdown begin. I welcome it:
"Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you"

Careful not to become a modern day Pharisee. You can blast me all you like, but all you are doing is increasing my reward.

They say actions speak louder than words.

Many people speak kind words and smile broadly as you approach.

Alas their twisted minds reveal their true nature in their actions.

Words are empty things.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you"
There is no honor in suffering. No meaning in a meaningless thing.

Great is the reward for those who do not bow down to oppression, for ye shall rise above the oppressor's in this life, and not the next.

Yours shall be the kingdom of earth and sky and sun.

Then shall ye truly live forever.

Wave. Old English does not make scripture out of non spiritual words. Allow me to quote from the Word.

He who loves his life will lose it.

For what shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?

"Rising above" as you say is the root of oppression. The root of all conflict is this desire to claw one's way to the top. The last two centuries are wrought with bloody conflict of oppressors and oppressed. And as soon as the oppressed win they become the new oppressors. Stupid game. If humanity would follow Jesus and all equally humble themselves to God we'd see peace. These institutions of man, governments, religions, ideas, all become their own oppressive entities. Jesus led by example. You see a loser, because you see things very temporally. I see a man who conquered fear pain and death. No one has given the world what he did.

Good luck in your endeavor to win in this realm. But I have a spoiler: King or peasant, you still end up dead. Read Ecclesiastes. Solomon had a lot to say about meaninglessness. Without God this entire realm under the sun is indeed meaningless. Enjoy playing your game of thrones and celebration of the animal natures of humanity.

Rise above it, indeed. But in spirit.

The last two centuries are wrought with bloody conflict of oppressors and oppressed.
The last two millenia are wrought with the bloody conflict of religious zealots who have spun a devious web of deception, claiming they were oppressed.
And as soon as the oppressed win they become the new oppressors.
As soon as organized religion is cast off there will be much fewer oppressor's to deal with.
You see a loser, because you see things very temporally
I see a magic mushroom...possibly Amanita Muscaria or Psilocybe Cubensis. Maybe even Psilocybe azurescens.

You just see magic.
I see a man who conquered fear pain and death. No one has given the world what he did.
Then lets worship Mahatma Gandhi as our new saviour and messiah.

Your right though...no one has given the world quite so much death and suffering.
Good luck in your endeavor to win in this realm. But I have a spoiler: King or peasant, you still end up dead.
I have no endeavor to win my friend. My endeavor is simple truth.

Death becomes us.
Solomon had a lot to say about meaninglessness. Without God this entire realm under the sun is indeed meaningless. Enjoy playing your game of thrones and celebration of the animal natures of humanity.
All biblical " philosophy " is merely a cheap knockoff of the philosophy of the time.

Do we not look like apes ? Do we not act like sheep ? Therefore are we not animals ?

To deny ones real form is truly insanity of the highest order.

Embrace the Lemur.

If it's a cheap knockoff, surely there is a preserved source of the true philosophy? Can you point me to it? Why was it not preserved?

Educate me. Tell me how it is that these philosophies find carriage in the bible, instead of being communicated in their own right?

Or do you argue that this is a waste of time and no word should be preserved? Doesn't that leave us in darkness?

What other source is there to provide this level of insight into the past? To shtcan the whole thing based on how you feel about a few miracles is like tossing out all your college education after you discover a professor taught one matter of one subject against what you think to be true.

So tell me, do you read philosophies of the past to see how they morph into a better understanding of our world? Or would that seem like a waste of time to you?

No point in educating someone steeped in magic and mysticism. I would have better luck educating a pygmy marmoset.

Of course preserve it. The bible is a fabulous example of human conceit and perceived self importance. Good stuff indeed.
What other source is there to provide this level of insight into the past?
Every book that was ever written gives insight into the past.
So tell me, do you read philosophies of the past to see how they morph into a better understanding of our world? Or would that seem like a waste of time to you?
To gain a better understanding of the reality which surrounds us, one need only engage 3 brain cells at a time. Faith in magic, goblins, angels, and sprites, has a way of blinding ones eyes.

...as I said previously..Insanity of the highest order.

FYI

I am not an atheist, as I do believe that " God " probably does exist on some level.

We are able to discern 4 dimensions ( 3 spatial dimensions + time ), while quantum physics suggests that there may be a minimum of 11 dimensions.

What if " God " exists on some higher dimensional level ?

It's the kiddie stories I take issue with, as well as there subsequent use for death, depravity, and intolerance.

Just cause some orgiastic fertility cult ate too many mushrooms.

Well, I was, uh, sitting in the public library on Thurmon Street just now, skimming through Rogue Herrys by Hugh Walpole, and I suddenly came over all peckish. I thought to myself, "a little fermented curd will do the trick," so, I curtailed my Walpoling activites, sallied forth, and infiltrated a place of purveyance to negotiate the vending of some cheesy comestibles! MAGIC CHEESE!!!Steve
