550 DFC pro tail speed up gears
Wondering what specific parts are needed to speed up the tail as I plan to run lower head speeds.

Thanks
Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

My plan is to run anywhere from 1600 on up and see where we are happy ,,maybe lower if possible. 600mm mains with be put on when I buy them and she already has either 90 or 95mm tail blades. The next size up from stock. going to run a 850 kv motor on 6 cells. Maybe it will be ok with the present gearing which is 3.85 or so. I know it is under 4.00Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Why are you going bigger on main blades ?
Tail will be even worse then as more counterforce needed

With lower head speeds I would like a bigger blade and I want to use 600mm mains since my 550 dfc has a 600 boom. You are correct the tail will get worse and that is why I want to speed up the tail if possible. I thought you could use gears from an older 550 or 600 as I seem to remember the tail ratio was over 4 to 1 instead of the 3.8 to 1 for the dfc.

Thanks for the link Jason

I was thinking of this as a possibility if I can't speed it up and the present gears don't work.

Like said if you fit the longer 700 tail fin and 105mm tail blades I think you will be ok

I wonder if I will have issues with 105's if I am running 600mm mains. PistolPete said I wouldn't have problems with 600 mains and 95's.Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Presently runnning my DCF with 550/95. (5S-5200mAh and short 550 boom)

At 1550 must be flown scale like or you will have hard landings. NO autos. (10+min)

At 1650 very enjoyable and the one I use most times. Sport/Slow 3D. Fast/scary autos. (8.5 min)

At 1750 she's awake. Decent 3D ala Curtis. Decent autos.(8 min)

IMHO anything over 1900 is a waste of energy a.k.a "my flying time".

Considering this beast was made for a 6S @23k rpm.

BEST blade I tested were the 570 SAB. You can go as low as 1500 and have a decent flight with a smile all the time and the sound...priceless.

You can go 600 but at the cost of shorter flights. Hands down my next set of blades will be 570 after these 550 bite the dust.

Problem is you want to run a very low head speed .
My 550 pro struggles with the tail running 100 90 100 during backward flight in wind .
It can't hurt to have to much tail power your gyro will just compensate , but if you don't have it enough it will just blow out .
I would fit your 600 main blades set your head speed up and try it with wat ever tail blades you have snf go from there as its a simple swap at field to change tail blades and fin if needed

I think your correct Lighteningrc
Yes that is the problem that I want to run low head speeds. 1700 area is where I will start. I will start with my present 550 mains and 95 tails and see what happens. 600 mains or even the 570's pistolPete recommends will stress the tail more. If need be I have a set of 105 tails to stick on which shouldn't mess with my 550 mains.
I just thought there were some TT gears from an older 550 or 600 that would speed up the tail which would be ideal in this application. Thanks for your reply lighteningrc.

Turboomni,

Trying to figure out my gearing conundrum I think I can answer your original question. The 180t .6mod auto gear gives a 4.5 ratio, so I read.

Thanks,,i looked it up and it said to use " Must with Autorotation Tail Drive Gear set (H60020A)" So I will look into it. If it is 4.anything to 1 that will be an improvememnt over the 3.85.Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them
