Top, left, front corner, above the left stick. Is your 8103 a Heli version, or not?

If Airplane TX, this is it:

If Helicopter TX, this is it:

Note the Heli radio has a knob in just above the left stick on its face. The Airplane version has a three-position toggle switch, instead.

The 8103 "H" should have a three position switch, top front on the left. If it doesn't, then yes, somebody broke the original switch and replaced it with a two position. It's up to you whether you can live with normal mode and one idle up.

That would mean there is a wire inside with no home to go to. Switches are easily replaced with the correct type to get your three operating modes back.-----

Easily replaced by a guy who can solder, assuming the "extra" wire was taped up rather than chopped off. I couldn't, in good conscience, advise the OP to open up and poke around in his radio if he could live with it the way it is. After 40+ years working in component level repair of electronic equipment, I'd never suggest a novice pick up a soldering iron and go to work... That's a short route to a ruined radio. I doubt Horizon would even look at an 8103 anymore, but hey, it might be worth asking.

Mimmy, the above statement is no slight to you. I don't know your skill set. Dave is correct about the wire, and switches being available, if you or someone you know can do the work. It requires a soldering pencil (not a gun!) in a small space with fragile plastic nearby. Good luck with your 8103. They are good radios. I've had two over the years. One my little brother is still using, the other is "retired" for spare parts.

I would be more than happy to take care of the switch for you.

My 8103 is assigned to SIM duty, and an occasional plank flight. Just replaced the lithium coin cell inside a few months back. Still going strong after all these years.
