Just curious as to what pitch pump settings everyone is running for 3D stuff?

Anywhere from zero to 50. I personally don't like how it feels so I'm more on the zero side.

Do any of the team pilots run 40 or 50?

The reason I am asking is that if a setting of 50 isn't used for anything other than a stress test on the system, and if I can't make my system have the problem at a value of 20, then is there really a problem?

If you're able to brown out the system on the bench, I personally wouldn't fly it. Not worth the risk.

High pitch pump values are useful for creating a bench scenario that is at the far extremes of what could happen in flight. I've never met anyone that flies with a value above 10-20.

That's why I am asking. I've been using a value of 0 since I started with Vbars, and have never had any issue.

No matter which servos I run, unless I set a value of 50, I don't get any errors (and can't force any errors, even by moving the collective stick at rates I can't possibly do while flying).

I guess I am just trying to learn about a phenomena I've never encountered, but can force by setting high enough numbers on the bench.

Guys, be especially careful with the BK line of servos and a full sized Blueline. One 8001 servo with no load and a 0 PP setting will cause the Vbar to reset and lose connection to the transmitter for about 1 to 2 seconds.

I got multiple resets on the Blueline with a TP 2250 70c RX pack with two leads plugged into the Vbar.

FWIW, and sure not trying to start a brand war, I ran the same test on an Ikon with only 1 power lead and all 3 servos, and could not get it to lose connect or cause the sats to blink.

I don't know the reasons (a couple people have voiced some theories), but Vbars can't handle the power of the newer really high powered speed and torque servos like BKs.

Just for your info.

That's not an inability to handle the load, it's an inability to deal with the back EMF being generated by the servo. ProTek R/C 270T brushless servos do the same thing, and AMain addressed that issue on their site openly. Rather than blaming the FBL systems, they (sort of) explained the cause and suggested workarounds.

There are lots of high speed, brushless, HV servos on the market that don't have that issue. Or you can use a separate power bus to isolate the circuit.

After seeing all the posts on brownouts and whatnot, I opted to build everything larger than a 500 with a dedicated power bus.

So instead of the vbar handling power to any of the servos, the powerbus does.

The powerbus feeds power to the vbar, and pulls the servo signal, then forwards the signal to the servo along with power to the servos.

The lipo plugs directly into the powerbus, which can easily deliver 25+Amps to whatever device that needs it.

Hemp, what do you specifically mean about using a separate power bus. Would not removing the red and black servo wires from the servo plug and plugging the signal wire into the servo remove the load off the Vbar bus (isolate the circuit).

I tried that and it didn't work. Still got the resets and the low rail voltage readings.

Moving the power line away from the VBar doesn't actually isolate it, back EMF can still travel through signal and ground. So whether or not that is enough depends on the cause of the problem.

I haven't tried the BK servos so I can't say first hand, but it sounds like you're fighting back EMF same as I have with the Protek RC servos. There's just simply no way to make them work with VBar without either adding something in-line to take the EMF hit, or truly isolating the circuits.

In my case, I use a WR Hercules Super BEC Pro. It has independent power busses for the servos and receiver/FBL unit. You plug all the cyclic servos into the BEC directly, then run leads from the BEC to the VBar (matching up all the channels.) Net result is the cyclics draw power directly from the BEC and the VBar gets a clean power source. I have also achieved the same effect with a 2S Rx pack using a Protek RC Dual Power Bus which takes a 2S input directly and provides two isolated power outputs, you can even select different voltages for each bus with that one.

There are other, cheaper ways to do it - but these options are plug-and-play and proven to work.

Look in the setup window under the swash tab. Click on the blue hat and the setting will come up.

Good luck.
