Is there a simple way to check the main shift of the Blade 450 for straightness? Unlike the spindle/feathering shift( which is bent) you cant roll it on a flat surface due to the way its made. I have remove it and checked both the short and long side with a straight edge and it looks good. I have news ones, but I don't want to waste parts.

thanks

If Not Sure...
If you not sure, I would spool up with the mains (and tail) blades off., that should allow you to see an out of round condition..
Or, try it after the other repairs, and see if it shakes in a hover.. if not it's good, and if it does it's an easy job to replace it..
Good luck,
Stan

If you really want to get crazy you can use what I have. A digital dial indicator mounted in a magnetic base. The base is heavy enough that it can support itself on any surface while checking something like a mainshaft for runout. It's WAY overkill and will run you close to $40.00 at the cheapest. (Harbor Freight). Rather than spend that much money I'd just spend a few minutes and swap in a new shaft to see if that cures the issues you're having. If not then keep searching but hang on to the shaft you pulled out.

I was thinking the of the same thing Joe! I used to have access to a full machine shop and could make what I needed. I would love to have a lathe and milling machine now, but as you said the parts are cheaper than the tools to measure or create.

Stan, ill give that a try when I get it back together. Waiting on the spindle to get here.

Thank you both for the advise.
