The "Major News Orgs" now have drones....saw where drone were used to survey the damage to Vanuatu in New Hebrides.

Soon, the news orgs will be crashing and obstructing commercial flight traffic....and we'll them be below the "radar profile"...except when cockroach idiots emerge...

From this article:

http://www.kval.com/outdoors/Crew-spots-drone-flying-feet-above-news-chopper-296796291.html
The number of collisions involving drones has also gone up, according to the FAA. An average of 25 incidents are reported every month involving drones that are flying too close to commerical aircraft, an FAA spokesperson added.
I wonder how real that figure is.

you're all on the wrong side of the tracks on this one, WHY? I say, because if ANY of you can judge the distance of your heli or drone or whatever beyond ACCURATELY a hundred feet without nearby references your SuperMan. I say the dude made a innocent mistake, kept the rotor thingy in line of sight, he took calculated risk, he was aware enough to bring the rotor thing HOME, and I wonder if the full size helis showed up AFTER he was in the air first. ok, he did go too high according to faa, you would too.

WHY DOESN'T SOMEONE TOSS A $10k multi into the rotor of a full scale heli to see what happens, ON THE GROUND OF COURSE? Twack, like a fly to an rc 450, should the question EVER arise, got a million $ for a heli, blades, and a disposable multi?

First, we did a test one time with a model equipped with telemetry and an altimeter. When you get near 400 feet most people cannot see the model to judge orientation .

In this case he was flying FPV that is how he was able to get to the altitude and distance he was. You can see the screen on his transmitter. So he knew how high and how far away he was (you can also see him looking at the screen when he doesn't even know where it is)

He also almost hit a car....not cool

Many years ago, a r/c airplane did hit a full scale heli. The airplane went right through the rotors. The result was an emergency autorotation right into a school yard and yes it did damage the rotorblades.

We just don't need people like the person flying that multirotor in the hobby and I would have no issues with the FAA throwing the book at him. Did he know better? Definitely, he had all of the information right on the screen on his transmitter

So, what about if/when a pilot takes one to the face through the thin plexiglass windscreen there, genius? Soft and squishy birds break through all the time. Look it up. Plenty of pictures of helos after being hit by birds in flight. Quit making outrageously stupid statements.

I've seen the bird impact pics on the web, ain't purdy.

sure he was out of line, not to get out of harms way as soon as he heard full scale helis was his biggest mistake.

be nice to see picks to demonstrate to everyone the very real potential and why it is so concerning, it only took 2lbs to bring down the Shuttle and all it's crew some years ago, terrible loss for no good reason, that's what need to be PREVENTED.
