Sakti3 has developed a lithium-ion battery that’s capable of storing twice as much power as batteries found in today’s smartphones and its deal with Dyson means its technology is closer than ever to coming to market. Technology Review speculates that it will first be used on a cordless vacuum cleaner and other wireless home appliances that Dyson makes.

copper atom in li ion batts help store li ions
metal fluorides, that are potential cathodes for future lithium (Li) ion batteries. They discovered that adding copper atoms to one member of this class, iron fluoride, produces a group of new fluoride materials that can reversibly store lithium ions, and can store three times as many as conventional cathode materials. Moreover, measurements indicate that these new materials could yield a cathode that is extremely energy-efficient.
