About to order a 550sx and have never ran a YGE or Jive so wanted some advice on which one to get. The price difference doesn't really matter if the Jive is easier to setup or has some features that make it worth the while. Thanks Tim

If you want the VBAR gov, go with the YGE, if not, go with K.

Is there much of a difference between the vbar gov and the Jive.

I don't have any experiance with the VBAr governor. People who use it say it is great.

I use internal governor and like it but I am not a 3D pilot yet.

The V-Bar gov does hold governed head speed a little better than my Jive's. That said, it's really not a huge difference.

If you prefer simplicity over the best gov., get the Jive

If you prefer the best gov. you can get and don't mind buying and rigging a phase sensor, get the YGE.

Either way, you'll LOVE that 550SX!!!

The YGE has the phases sensor built in, no need to add one externally .
The VBAR gov is proactive and is more stable and more efficient.
The KONTRONIK gov is reactive so not quite as good but is the best internal gov on the market and is easy to program.

Thanks Ron. I didn't know that YGE's had that built in.

The YGE 90LV has the sensor port, as Ron mentioned. The only YGE that requires building a phase sensor is the 120, which takes about 5 minutes to build. Of course the 160 & 200 as well, but not applicable to the 550.
I know Kontronics are good, but personally I've had two fail. I've ran several YGE and never had an issue. I would go with the 90LV if you're using an external BEC, otherwise I'd get the 90 Mikado version if your planning to use the internal BEC.

I've used both. The Kontronik and the YGE are both plug and play Opinon.

The Jive has a built-in BEC that can actually be used. That will partially make up for difference in cost compared to the YGE. Having used both in various aircraft, I'd go with neither. You can get a Castle Talon 90 for about 2/3rds the price of the YGE that has a usable BEC and an RPM sensor ready to hook up to the V-Bar. Just make sure you choose the correct gearing for the RPM you plan to run since the Castle uses passive rather than active freewheeling.

If you plan on a low head speed setting for one of your idle-ups, I'd go with the K for the best active freewheeling.

^ just fyi, the YGE has a usable BEC and sensor that plugs directly into the Vbar. Not that Castle is not an option, buts it not the only that has both.

Thanks for the help! I went with the YGE 90. The only trouble I had was figuring out the rpm sensor on the esc which is a orange wire plugs into the negative port on the vbar. Really would of thought it would plug into the signal port, but once I flipped the plug around everything works like a charm. So far Ive got about 10 flights on the 550sx and the highest current Ive drawn is 85 amps so I think Im in good shape.
Also Ive been flying helis since 02 and have to say hands down the 550sx is my favorite heli Ive ever owned. The slide out battery tray is the greatest thing since a HH gyro imo.

That wire does not plug into the negative port. RXA is a SIGNAL port only….meaning NO POWER ( (+) or (-) ) is to be plugged into it. Otherwise you will fry the VBAR. All three pins are for signal

I just didnt have any other way to explain what pin I plugged it into other than negative since that is what the top pin normally is.
