I am building 450L using Xnova 1860KV motor. Motor is touching both side frames. I don't think that is typical. Could it be the Xnova motor is too big in diameter ? Anyone who build 450L encounters this issue ?

Thanks,

The kde direct motor had the same problem. They made a video of how to install it and they actually just cut the carbon fiber off of the frame around the motor. They said it didn't cause any problems. I don't think Id want to cut my frames but if you already have the motor I'd do it. I don't think it would be a problem. Maybe you could just file the frame down a little if it just barely touches the motor.

Thanks for the response. I measure the width of the frames, about 32.89mm. Diameter of Xnova motor is 33mm. KDE motor is also 33mm. It may be difficult to file down both inner side of frames. Easy way would be cutting it off. Tough decision to make ....

I think I saw it on the HF KDE section but HF seems to be down. I tried to find it in YouTube but couldn't find it either.

Motor Mount issue :(
I cut the frame and surely, motor fitted very well. However, I encountered another issue regarding to the motor that I used - Xnova 2618-1860KV. This motor only support M3 screws while 450L motor mount screw slots were for M2.5 screws. M3 screw would not go through the motor mount slots. I tried to find any 3rd party motor mount for 450L but none so far. 450L is too new for 3rd party vendors to make an universal motor mount for it. KDE has an universal motor mount which support both M2.5 and M3 screws. However, it looks like only for 450 heli, not 450L heli

A dremmel with a sanding drum works well to widen the motor hole. If you can clamp both frame plates together both can be ground at the same time. I just did this on a 550.

Actually what I did was I ran a few screws through the plates with nuts to hold the 2 plates together.

We made up some rules can we have your moneys now.

I did clamp down both sides of the frame together to cut the CF piece out using dremel tool. So you suggested to use dremel tool to grind the motor mount slots to be wide to fit M3 screws ?

My suggestions were for grinding the carbon fiber plates for the larger motor.

Grinding out the motor mount holes would be necessary for the larger 3mm screws but this would be "more advanced grinding". It would be hard to get it to look good, but this might be necessary to get it to work until there is another proper motor mount. Any chance there is another set of holes in the motor with small diameter?

*edit*
Might be worth calling KDE to see if their 450 mount will work on the dominator.

The Xnova motor only have 4 M3 screw holes. Align stock 6s motor is using M2.5 screws. KDE motor comes with both M2.5 and M3 mounting holes. KDE's 450 Universal motor mount comes with both M2.5 and M3 mount holes. I don't know about the width of KDE motor mount. 450L is wider than 450 Pro between the 2 side frames. Maybe, I should have bought the KDE motor in the first place. I did not know the mount hole issue and motor size issue before hand.
