I don't think the other mods there really have a problem with a lot of it. Last thing he pm me for and pulled off the site is when I posted a link to a wacky Craig's list ad. Showed some older then dirt heli that was broke and the guy wanted like 1500 for it. I had to share but the post was pulled and I got a warning for posting spam. He's kind of like Barney from the Andy g show. I know why the mods are there and it's great to have them , but there is one who is way over the top.
and
I remember when RR was down HF hosted a section for RR members to communicate nice to see its being allowed here. RR is my go to with HF being second. Hope HF gets back up and running.
I came over here and was going to try to start a thread for us freaks to BS in while Will fixes the site and jumped straight to OT as I thought I might perhaps get the boot -- Maybe that's what my mind has been trained on over at HF.

Anyways seems Mark is being a gracious host, Thanks Mark!

I guess the drama continues. The web is giving a default server not found?

2:22pm Central time and it's still down.

I hope it's not serious - I know that site gets a lot of traffic, but it's nice to hang out here.

I'm sure they will come back just as runryder
when it came under attack. Might take a few days. We survived RR withdrawel, we''ll survive freak withdrawal.

Did it have anything to do with BladeScraper's banning?

Last message stated that they may need to migrate to a new server so I am sure it will be down for a few day’s at least.

Put a heli up for sale on HF last night..then it's gone again. Only reason I went on there. I'm starting to really like it here more.

I hope they get it fixed soon, and I hope the hackers, if they were the cause of the issues, get punished.

I am kinda a nooblett on the server/web hosting, but isn't this kinda getting to the point of unrealistic. On and off for the last 10+ days they have been down 75-85% of the time.

Is it a situation where they tried and tried to make the old system work, and it was a fail... SO they then had to move it all over to a new deal? And now they are at the start from scratch phase...

BUT why the deception and slide of keyboard? If it is a cyber attack is it "not cool" just to say that?

if your a business that depends on click to pay for advertizing, admitting to a cyber attack will likely run off alot of those that are paying for advertizing space there.

better to say they are "upgrading" than scare people off.

as for being unrealistic... no it does happen. a complex web site like RR and HF have very complex HTML or XML code and dozens of files that all most work together to bring what seem like a fluid experience... screw up your code or have it infiltrated by an attack and things get out of hand quick. especially when you have alot of people with thier hands in the code.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

If they are being hit with a distributed denial-of-service attack then it is highly likely that they may need to change hosting providers or location in order to mitigate that. Not all network/hosting providers or datacenters have the necessary equipment to handle high-volume DDOS attacks and not all of them offer sufficient levels of DDOS mitigation to handle high-volume attacks. The hardware to filter this type of attack is insanely expensive and requires a certain amount of time/traffic to model the network communications before it can be effective in eliminating the malicious traffic without killing off the legitimate traffic.

Mark went through this a few years back with RunRyder. In that case, it also took several weeks until the site was stable and reliable from the user's perspective. It also took something like 70K$ in hardware if I recall his comments at the time.

OK, seriously I know very little about how it all really works. From a layman's reading a DDOS attack takes powerful style system to bombard the host servers with a ton of request. And that over load makes the server bog down, maybe even enough to crash it?

Who would be able to do that, and what would the point be?
Except sheer malicious intent? I mean there would be no profit? So other than to cost Will money, and loose the users a place to go, why do it?

Well there up at this time but who knows for how long

I have know idea how a DDOS attack works but from what I have
seen and heard it wouldn't surprise me if somebody went thru a
lot of trouble to get "EVEN with who ever owns HF

I myself have never had a problem over there but I don't go there much

I like the crowd here much better

but I have seen a lot of people complain how HF is run
so somebody might do whatever it takes if they have the ability to do it

ageing is manditory maturity is optional

Lots of things going on if you have a web based business... Your site or company could be subject to ransom and blackmail. I have heard of companies whose files, sensitive info, and/or code have been stolen then held for ransom.

I'm not saying this happened to HF or RR but these are some reasons why sites could be under attack or have been attacked. Other reasons could be that someone got pissed off and decided to retaliate.

I don't think bladescaper is smart enough to launch any kind of attack.

Towpilot can go suck a fat one...

Worst thing about HF being down now is that I have a bunch of **** for sale there right now and a few items that sold right before the site went down.

Ouch. I don't go there much anymore, but I did have a heli listed there (and at 2 other sites). The heli sold here, but I had an email notification from HF that I had a PM about the heli. It was after it sold, but dang. I felt bad that I couldn't communicate to the guy that the heli was already sold.

It finally got up enough tonight that I was able to at least PM him back and close the thread. Still, though. That was a week with a guy wanting to buy a heli, probably not shopping other options, etc. etc. I feel your pain.

Frankly if there is enough money to be made if they rectify the problem they will fix it. Otherwise they will let it die . But I doubt it. Why all the effort?? ,,,,,money and all the others that rally behind it for no money because they feel important. They [the others] make the owners richer and of course are appreciated in public.,,,so they do more,,,
It is not just HF either.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them
