Learning to fly TRex 550 just feet away and almost loses it. Second attempt out of control loud crash. Also guy trips on the stairs running to get a heli that's already grounded. Like I said, I sure hope this is not the norm with those learning to fly.

SIMULATOR

There is just no reason for this to happen. If you cannot hover for 10 minutes without crashing, you have no business flying the real thing. You are a danger to yourself and others.

unfortunately I think this happens a lot the sad part is it's not just one guy making a dumb mistake there a whole group of people.

I personally think training gear on anything over a 500 class is just silly and asking for trouble

I learned how to fly on a venom night ranger what a pile of $hit but I did learn on it

Mabey one day i will actually land one of these things !!

The only thing more silly is to have training gear on a helicopter in the simulator!

You probably need to be on the sim every day for a couple of months, and two months longer than you think you do. Even the multi-rotor guys need the sim.

I agree many learned to fly without a sim and you REALLY earned it. My hats off to you guys! It is just that times have changed and there is a better way. I think that more people would stay around if they did not get discouraged with the crashes. It is very hard to keep going after pounding your beautiful new 550.

A simulator well used before attempting the real cuisinart unbridled can save a lot of early grief.
Early failures and continued effort until success are not for the faint of heart. A simulator saved me from dumb thumb mistakes from the beginning.
Set-up and programming errors for stunts? A different story. That took some failures to figure out. This guy at least has someone to check his setup for him.

Ya I learned back in the stone age
no computers no sims
no gyro's except the kind you eat
after I learned how to hover
some body came out with a "training" stand
but I saw people crash on it too
that was ugly

I used a hula hoop and it did help as long as you didn't get more than 1 foot or so off the ground
and I did "quit" several time's
at least for a week or two
but it was to late after starting the engine the first time
I was hooked and it appears for life

there's no reason to do it that way today though at all

the only reason I finally learned is I was way to stubborn
to let it get the best of me

ageing is manditory maturity is optional

you look like a good pilot and i suspect by listening to your helicopter that it is not setup properly it should be more stable then it is.

sounds like you are using linear th curves

and you should use 15%+ expo on aileron and elevator if your using a spektrum tx

try these th curves
0 30 65 65 65

what pitch curves are you using ?

looks like you are using linear pitch curves to your heli should not have slammed to the ground when you lowered your throttle if it was setup right

we are here to help brother

your last crash looked like your tail was not holding

i can help you .

^^^^ The Above is WHY we Recommend Wiffel Ball's : & a Sim if you got the scratch

Most up lifting experience to scare the Be -Jesus out of you is the Day you decide to take em off as a sense of accomplishment.

Or the day they go and do the Waggel Jiggle Hippopotami Hop-pity Dance while you are focused on Hover.

Attempting to destroy your totem

Then when THAT is FUNN - Your Hooked !!!

That's usually the sign you got to take em off !!

The next step is forward Flight: YOU BETTER HAVE A PLAN !

They need an entry level heli....that. heli is set up to do 3d....my old 450sa was a real sweet heli to learn to fly with...just put on flybar weights and move them in as you get more comfortable. .....now a noob has to learn to tune an flb when they have no idea what going on with the heli let alone how to fix it.....keep it simple at first then progress as you start to learn what happening and why.
