If your R50 is not ccpm I would not convert it. Fly it as is and try and secure another Thunder tiger frame that is already ccpm and FBL ready equipped. There are a few in the classifieds that are ready for electronics @ a marginal price. Welcome back.

I had the same dilemma. I had an old Fly barred Raptor and was thinking of changing it to FBL. It was the only 50 size heli I own. After looking at heads for a long while and even considered buying a used X50 I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. If I needed this helicopter, I would continue to fly it like it is and just enjoy it. I have decided to just sell it and fly my other helis.Team Synergy, Team Scorpion, No good deed goes unpunished

You need a flybarless head and flybarless controller. If your servos are not digital, youll have to check if your flybarless controller you choose is compatible with analog servos. Even is they are anolog, they maybe too slow for a flybarless system, so a servo upgrade isnt a bad thing. The head has been mentioned, and I use a rjx on a raptor 50, and 90. They both fly much better than before IMO.
As far as the rx, you may be able to use spektrum satellites straight off the fbl unit, depending on the unit. I use them straight off mini vbars on 6 units with no issues.
If you havent decided on a fbl controller, this is the time to do the research on what youd like.

But.... ive seen trex600n's rtf go for close to the price of what youd pay for the upgraded equipment, and have a heli that flys much better from the start. I had the stuff laying around, and tons of raptor parts, so It was nothing more out of pocket.
When I start again with a newer 600 nitro again, it will probably be a synergy.

Don't fall into the trap. Your flybarred Raptor didn't forget how to fly. I would not bother changing to flybarless. It's not an upgrade, just a change for the sake of change in your case since you're just getting back in. I'd fly it as is. Otherwise, you need controller, faster servos, flybarless head and you'll benefit from FBl blades as well. All this on a non CCPM airframe. I wouldn't do it.
