Thanks for all the useful input guys. To reiterate my point, I believe rc heli companies should be catering more to the guys that have the purchasing power and not just the young pilots that want to do smack.
I mostly hear from other pilots that they prefer to watch purposeful and consistent flying from such pilots as Bobby Watts, Alan Szabo and Nick, to name a few. Someone they can relate to.

I am not saying it is not fun watching these young Mavrick pilots, I just believe that most pilots would more aspire to fly like aforementioned pilots.
In addition, how wierd do you feel, walking over to some kid that still has spots on his face, at the field or flight line and try to chat up or ask them about there setup on there heli?

OK I have read all 5 pages here and as I am reading I am trying to justify getting that new blade 180 in the back of my mind...never mind that I just bought a mystery sailplane at Close to $500.00, and a new Precision Aerobatics Katana MX for around $550.00, and the just got the DX9 black box edition $460.00 all within the past month...what is the number of that addiction hot line again? I can't figure out if I am making myself sick, or happy. I NEED HELP.

This is a great topic, I am now almost 42 started flying planes at 12 . thanks to my father! Helis I started in 95 on my own with a friend that taught me to fly planes! Nexus Shuttle right to a Min46 and remember those gyros that were mechanical? These kids dont even know the battles! NO GYROS AT ALL!! Sims WHAT IS THAT. Point is some parents have deep pockets for their kids and thats great better than drugs!! I learned 3d before IT WAS 3D..with out heading hold and all the new tec. Inverted flight with a g154.. backward flight with a piezo gyro.. My first HH gyro made by 540 CSM that Johnson pushed.. Times have changed and its like going to the races! People wanna see the heli hit the ground and crash and we all hear it at the events of the inner ins.. lower LOOOWER COME ON TOUCH THE GROUND..the ones smacking it to the ground usually DONT pay to fly and are given stuff! BUT like i say IS WHAT IT IS.. if you dont put the time in YOU WONT get any better! IF YOU DONT push the envelope you wont pass that fear... SO MAX OUT THAT CREDIT CARD AND BUY IT ALL and get it done!

On a more serious note, the future of our hobby is not bright as it once was, with recent negative light on radio control models, it seems that if we do not do something more than just...like on this thread, we may just have RC Helis as just Simulation.

I feel so dirty!

I once only could afford EXI clones and I was happy. Then I got my first taste of a Trex450TT (2nd hand) I was back with the richies and life was good.

Now once again, I am scraggling about with my Trexs hanging out and hiding my shame.

What is a person to do? I so want to be cool! (and 17yo too!)

Alms for the poor!?!? ahh crap, what ever

I don't ask pimple faced kids anything about anything they have or how they set anything up. I'll bs about stuff but they don't know anything I already don't know. Whippersnappers, lol.

The comments about how the manufacturers should be marketing to us middle agers who buy the majority of product is interesting. We are buying the sporty 3d stuff because it's sporty. Do we really want old man helicopters? I don't. They are mid life crisis machines. How many middle agers are running out and buying minivans? Okay bad example, minivans make awesome heli haulers. You know what I mean. We aren't demanding old man sensible helicopters so why would they make them? Besides, they are trying to appeal to the whippersnappers even though they know who can actually afford their products. Nice thing about sporty helicopters is they look cool but we can still fly them like old men.

I have been in the RC hobby since I was about 12. now 26 year later I still am doing what I love. I started off with my father buying me a cheap electric car, he soon found out that I loved it so much he bought me a 2 stroke petrol buggy. Now back then there were fewer cars, and (I was in america at the time) I could drive it up and down the road, do jumps, everything was made of metal, proper clutch, etc. Then I moved into Gliders, Electric..... it took a while and with no help from anyone realised I was doing it wrong quite quickly. Throwing it where the wind blew instead of into the wind....... well after many props later and broken ripped wings I soon got the hand of it. I moved onto faster gliders then my first Nitro car, I wanted to play with nitro for a long time, but it was very expensive. I bought a 1/10th scale model (heck knows what it was) did the part but was very sloppy with controls. However I got to understand how a nitro engine worked... So whilst flying gliders and learning about nitro I bought my first fixed wing plane, it was a learner model...and nitro.. I took off fine, which surprised me and yes had a couple of not so great landings requiring me to repair spend a weekend in my shed and move on. I then moved onto faster planes, and helicopters, and then large scale models. I suffered a head on collision with a drunk driver .... I broke my spine and thought I would never walk again... I can hardly walk but.... I got into multirotors. I started small with home stuff, then I bought my first DJI phantom 1 . I loved it but it was too simple. so I built one from scratch.. and to date I keep building models for people and now I fly just Helicopters, and Multirotors....... I would love to have another 1/5th petrol car but I can bend down.. infact I still have a very special model in the loft made by Ferrari themselfs! Yes I am not a newbee or a expert.. I think anyone claiming to be a expert is full of Pooh! I had a full commercial pilots licence for helicopters, I have flown my friends fixed wing but it scared the hell out of me.. IE he gave me the controls in the air.. I was in the USN and I just love this hobby..... there ya go. I spend money on all sorts... infact I am rebuilding my 2 nexus helicopters as we speak. one requires cleaning, greasing etc. whilst the other requires me to recover the blades, and I am changing all my recievers to suit my Taranis X9d as it can store them all and I can make changes when I want. so call me a novice at the best.

Thanks to Uncle Sam I live in England UK. I am still an american and refuse to be anything else.

Why let pride get in the way of a good setup? He might have serious wisdom to pass.

Agree. Back when Kyle Dahl was first becoming a force in 3D (flying his logo 400), I asked him many questions and got valuable answers.
