I only buy from the T.V. advertized Diamond Exchange and the guy named Morti ! or Isador : He is usually eating lunch though -Masto Ball Soup . Just call him Izzy for short !

Now if we were in Afghanistan romping around getting in trouble We would be looking for something VERY SPECIAL and Pretty Darn RARE In the gravel Only native to Afghanistan.

The local jeweler (small shop) I stopped at was very helpful and sympathetic to my situation. The owner inspected the ring and seemed like he wanted it to be real and it bothered him to tell me it was not. He then took a lot of time with some of his pieces side by side with the one I brought in to show me the difference and what to look for if I went elsewhere. I assured him that we would be back in to his shop together as soon as I could do so.

Very Cool ! My favorite stones are the Tanzanite - beautiful / The real Alexanderite - Real WOW unusual : & Very - Very Rare / and the True Canary Diamond.

Here's a similar qaundry about the time the Carter Administration let the gas out of the Economy and got us involved in the gulf. Blood for Protection / 200 Dead GI's in Beirut / the Shaw & Hostages / Gas embargo / every body driving Vega's and Pinto's. ect. It went South almost over-nite.

The Economy was Booming ! It wasn't looking for Job's - It was which one would you like to try !! Help wanted sign's - everywhere. We where making money hand over fist ! Interest rates where sky high too ! 18% for 30 year fixed ! 9% on check book saving's, car money was 18% to 22 %.

Prior to the engagement ring I wanted a Heart shaped Red Rubie in a fairly decent size. Very difficult to find in a clean configuration with size . For my owner & trainer. They are very soft and delicate.

Typically they always have inclusion's or shadow in them - but prime stones are out their - but rare . The way to get the uber clean heart shape cut at the time was to find one that after the work, the inclusion would be removed. Neat because the work would recover the loss of the weight to get it into a Prime configuration. or bring the value back up. Took along time to even locate one.

Long story short - I had it reserved and making payment's on it - when Carter destroyed the Economy and had to get out from under it.
Nobody had a dime.

Think I gave up around 15% but got out - It was a real tussle - but the head gemologist or grand daddy let me : Even his business got body slammed by the economy. Every thing went right into the barrel for around 6 year's. Till the Country recovered.

Been Their and Done That

Check out this diamond tester on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/HDE-Accuracy-...=diamond+tester

I have one and it works great for me. You can read the reviews. It gets 4 out of 5 stars.

One key to a diamond is the fact it is a "carbon" diamond or not. The more expensive diamonds are mined versus the man made. Man made "carbon" diamonds may have less flaws than a mined diamond, but the mined diamond is more expensive.

There is a tiny difference between man made and mined, but it is almost impossible to tell. The man made "carbon" diamonds are so good, they have upset DeBeers to the point of developing a machine to detect the difference.

Be careful of the "Simulated Diamond" made by companies like AGAPE DIAMONDS. They appear to be a legit company and sell the full line of diamonds (simulated to mined), but they still use the word diamond when referring to "Simulated". "Simulated" is not a "carbon" diamond.

but she will not stop wearing the damn fake ring I gave her. She says she loves it and intends to continue wearing it until we can get another one
Priceless! Best part of this entire thread, from the heart.
May the two of you have a wonderful marriage!

Synthetic diamonds are very beautiful these days and often more perfect than the ones we dig up.

Looks like you got a Christmas present beyond value this year!
I'm jealous. Beautiful woman with a love that can't be bought.

Sorry Jack, like these guys said. Your heart was in the right place and that means more than anything. It's just too bad this world is full of people like that. I hope he gets what's coming to him soon. Maybe 2 broken arms or a broken neck for the New Year.Russ

Thanks Russ. Honestly it's already becoming something we joke about. We went back to the Jewelry store yesterday and picked out a modest (but certified) ring together. Fortunately I could afford to do this sooner than I expected. They have to send it out to be sized so after all that she's still wearing the fake one for another 5 - 7days lol
