Any unmoderated helicopter forums out there
Are there any unmoderated helicopter forums out there? When I started with rc helis a few years ago I joined HF and noticed very quickly that any post I created was being moved around or updated by some moderator. I went to access HF through my companies network and received a message stating my ip was banned. Someone along the way must have did something to get banned from HF using the company network. For those of you that are not IT or network savy when you are behind a company firewall or gateway everyone uses the same IP address. If you have a thousand users accessing the interent through that firewall any single user that causes trouble will get every one banned by proxy. I joined rr with the hopes of being able to post reasonable content without being policed. If you look at my posting history it's not too exiciting and I dont go out of my way to start trouble. Im not into drones yet but I am aware of the current movement to police them. Being policed on a public forum IMO is the same type of behaviour. I created a small post in the gasser section and it was moved to the 'news' section. I thought it was removed since I could not find it and I wasnt notified that the thread was moved. I have no affiliation with any rc company what so ever and my post is just the basic build or 'hey I'm excited I have a new model' type of thread. This model has been around for quite some time now and it isn't anything new. Isn't news for something that is new? Forums profit obviously by member contributions and access. Is it too much to ask for some basic courtesy by moderators? Maybe an email stating that your thread is being moved since you as a member help pay my bills?

unmoderated helicopter forums
An oxymoron. This is tough. I go out and cover events at great expense. I provide bandwidth for your enjoyment. I engineer software so as to not have to block IPs. RR is my day job.

Subscribe to the gasser forum and have no problem seeing everything.

I believe I found the lost thread to which you refer - about a gasser conversion kit for a Goblin 700.

This post asks:
Isn't news for something that is new?
It would seem to me the presence of such a product would be news.

Mark does a remarkable job of staying well behind the scenes here. I've been here a long time and overall it is hard to tell that there IS a moderator.

Sure, there are "pinked" posts from time to time, some deleted posts, and it is pretty easy to see when someone has stepped over the line and put in "time out". On the occasions where that has happened, the offending post was most likely brought to Mark's attention by a member using the "Attn RR" link found in each post.

About 90% of your complaint in this post is about how "that other forum" runs its business, and against your employer's IT security policies.

If the worst complaint you can lodge against RR is that a thread you started got moved to a different place without notification, that is a relatively benign action. I have had that happen to me on occasion. A quick PM to Mark, he has told me where and why it was moved. No biggie. The post and thread are still there, open, and available for all to see.

I believe an unmoderated web forum would quickly deteriorate into utter chaos and the good guys would quickly abandon it.

You could be like Mark and create your own website, then deal with the whiners that grumble and complain about how you run your site.Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.

short answer no !

No one can have a unmoderated forum of any type
I have seen some
you cant carry on any type of conversation on them
The subject will be lost in less than 4 posts
the idiots will be talking trash instantly

Mark does a good job of walking the tight rope
of moderating/censorship
I haven't seen any heavy handedness here

Unlike the other "forum"
ageing is manditory maturity is optional

If something is missing that you posted, can't you just look at your own username and see the recent post listing?

One problem with RR is that everything is listed in the Main forum and not much is listed in the categories. Mark is just trying to add some order to the big pile of mess.

I currently create 'websites' for a living or more specially Web applications. WEB development is the easiest of the software engineering disciplines out there. There are plenty of forum platforms that an individual can have running in as little as a few hours. I learned quite some time ago that there's no reason to write code that is readily available other than for self gratification. I hope your not referring to me as a whiner. I have no problem speaking my mind and don't respect others that beat around the bush. Mark profits from this site and IMO has a certain obligation to the people that frequent this site.

I can obviously find my thread. I don't start a thread so I can talk to myself. I typically start a thread so I can get my questions answered and hopefully answer a question or two or help someone else. When my thread was moved it was moved to a location that's harder to find. I've been told by a few individuals that rr isn't gasser friendly. Those statements make sense to me now. I don't profit at all by building and flying models so when I hear things like that it goes in one ear and out the other. I've stated this in the past but moving posts with no real rule set or arbitrarily IMO is discrimination. If one thread gets moved shouldnt all of them find there way to their correct homes? I don't belive my thread is news. Why would a thread on someone building a helibug conversion in the gasser section NOT be moved to the 'news' section while my thread discussing a leviathan build that has been around for at least a year now(the conversion not my thread) be moved to a section called 'news'. There is nothing new about it. I understand the need to moderate illegal content but I'd like an explanation on why my thread is news while other similar threads are not? It really annoys me that the same group of individuals who constantly express their concerns about being FAA regulated or policed stick up for being regulated through their forum to express such concerns.

I thought it was removed since I could not find it
Sorry I must have misread this.

Its not the moderator on this website that looks for things to play with. Someone reported it and usually he will do something with it. I have had things moved, but honestly who cares? 3/4 of the stuff in the main discussion does not belong there but I have better things to do than fix/report others mistakes all night

Well it does sound like you are whining. This is the best forum for helis! RR is not 'gasser friendly' I find it hard to believe Mark has an 'agenda' against gassers with all he has to worry about. You say you are in IT and this type of forum is the easiest to create. This forum has the personnel touch and tweaking that the 'canned' forums will never approach.

Get on with your forum life and get over it. Close the post and move along and quit your whinning because one of your posts got moved!!!

What do you know about software engineering and what Mark has to worry about? This is the usual unqualified dribble that spews from someone that doesn't have a clue. I do not know Mark personally and this is not a personal attack. Please keep your childish personal attacks to yourself. I have a right to voice my opinion and you obviously have something else going on....

My obligation to you is to work hard and sort through a very complex set of issues. That is, keep RR in business. Insinuating that I play favorites is an insult. The Scale guys have no problem with the RR categorization system. We need to move forward. Take it or leave it, and all without blocking IPs (not one).

I would suggest subscribing to the Gasser forum and not miss out.

Thx Mark for answering my question. I had a feeling that others would start bashing me personally rather than answer a simple question.
