Belt Problems
Hello again everyone. I crashed my logo 480 pretty bad a few weeks ago. Rebuilt it, everything from the belt tensioners back is brand new except for the tail belt. New main and feathering shaft and main and belt drive gear. So after i replaced all that i noticed that while flying it i could hear like the belt bouncing around. Like its hitting inside the boom, sounds like some bells ringing. So i checked the tension several times. tension is good, i have tried different belt tensions, since it doesnt say in the manual what the tension should be, i spoke to some people and they advised to have it kind of tight. So yesterday i was test flying in the front yard and then all of a sudden the heli starts to spin like it lost tail control and i could see the tail blades slowing down. I managed to hit throttle hold and autorotate it down. So i took apart the tail, rebuilt it and took it out for a test flight today, and same thing still sounds like the belt hitting inside and i did some 3d flying with tick tocks and every orientation of flight. and belt didnt pop off. so then i did lots of fast pirouttes and hard stops and the belt came off again. Managed to autorotate it down, i did notice that the tail case and the back of the boom and the front of the boom were warm to the touch. I just finished rebuilding the tail a third time. Im sure its built right, its a 22.3m all around. Anyone have any idea whats going on???? I dont know how many times i can land it with the belt slipping out, one of those times i wont be so lucky. thanks.

Here is a video you can hear the sound if you turn up volume at 1:12,1:36,2:46,3:21,3:30.

Test flew today. Everything works good. Still hear the noise when applying rudder but the belt didn't pop off I did some very aggressive rudder inputs and stops. And the tail components were normal temperature. I do believe it's a bad belt. Seems like it's stretched more in some areas then others, probably from the crash. It went in tail first. Will replace it

UPDATE!!!!!!
ROFL Because of my stupidity i left one bolt and nut on one the tail blade grips but not the other, thats why this thing was shaking so violently during all the troubleshooting. Removed the bolt and spooled it up again and smooth as butter. WOW!!! i cant believe i did that. Will rebuild and test again.

i had this problem yesterday with my upgaded logo550sx, halfway flying, heli went spinning round and lost control of tail, can hear the belt loosing tension sound. its same situation by navihawk tail slipping.

why mikado did not create a hole at tail boom end to hold the position, rather than letting us adjust ourself. this will allow the clamp to loosen and it will happen to some of us if we are unlucky

and the new boom clamp is quite slippery.

i was doing piro flip, 3d flying and it happened..i landed in a hard landing, main blade Ok, but tail servo frame and servo case broken.

quite dissapointed with this anyone knows why the tail can slip like this ?

What's the distance that you are sliding the tail box onto the rear of the tail boom? Is it flush with the end of the tail boom, or does it have about 3mm of tail boom sticking out?"I just don't Listen" "

If everything is installed and tightened correctly, the tail box will not slip in normal flight. I have knocked mine out of position many times by hitting it on the ground, but that's a different issue.

I saw a case not long ago where someone had a mismatched set of boom clamps, one was for a 25mm boom and the other was for the 22mm boom. It was (obviously) impossible to correctly tighten those clamps, but for some reason they decided to try anyway. Would be even worse if you had two 25mm clamps, but I have to think that would be hard to overlook.

At the spec spacing of 27mm between inside edges of the tail fin pieces it should be tight enough that it won't slip. Once I get everything squared up, it's closer to 26mm on my 550sx. I do measure and square it, every time. I can wrench on it with my hands and it doesn't turn.

Another thing I do, which I recommend, is to install the anti-static wire such that one screw goes into the boom in the center of the rectangular gap in the boom clamp on the rotor side. Putting it there after adjusting tension should leave plenty of movement to adjust tension later for changes in temperature, but won't allow the tail case to spin more than a few degrees in case it did come loose.

Do you have it pinned at the main frame, front of the boom? It can slip there as well.
Some also pin it at the back as well but if you fly more than light duty you'll want to leave it so the belt can be tensioned regularly.

Forgot that bit. The anti-static kit if screwed into the boom at the frame does pin it there also.
