At one time all you had to do is buy the spectrum module. ... but it might not be available anymore....

The 72 MHz XP9303 can be converted to operate as a Spektrum 2.4 GHz transmitter by replacing the plug-in RF module with the Spektrum AirModule.

BUT you will ONLY be able to use DSM2 protocol, DSMx is NOT supported by the AirModule. You also do not get the ModelMatch feature. It CANNOT be upgraded to DSMx.

SOME flybarless units (Ikon/Brain, 3GX, perhaps others) do NOT play well when operated using ONLY satellite receivers with the Spektrum AirModule. Though there are workarounds, they aren't all that pretty and not what I'd recommend.

Keep in mind that DSMx is not something everyone needs, it is useful if you want to fly at large events with hundreds or thousands of pilots (IRCHA Jamboree, Joe Nall, SEFF... ... etc.).

ALL DSM2 receivers work with DSMx transmitters, they only bind and operate in DSM2 mode.

All DSMx receivers work with DSM2 transmitters, they only bind and operate in DSM2 mode.

NEVER NEVER NEVER mix DSM2 and DSMx satellites and receiver If you have a DSMx receiver, use ONLY DSMx satellites. If you have a DSM2 receiver, use only DSM2 satellites.

Thanks Dave. I know we had this conversation once before, but I really didn't understand what you were saying back then? Now that I have a little bit of time in the hobby things make a little more sense.
