Took a look at the pics ... OUCH!!!!!

At least one link bent and one broken ... See what you mean about potential deformation ... Blade holders tight on what axis'?

The blade holders were loose such that they would flop when turned on its side. I tightened them up then backed off the bolt until they would just hold when in the vertical plane.

A lot of the components were designed to take the impact and or break or bend so that it was not transferred to the pylons. The wing and pylon tubes bend easily. I removed the one wing after the mount pulled apart. when I first got it I tried an auto and it landed hard enough to crack the seam between the wing and the mount bracket so I think this impact was just enough to separate them.

Since it is a pair of 450's the bent links seems pretty normal (compared to the 450 Furion I had).

I think it is going to be less Ouch than putting the Spectra G in the ground. Also glad I had not put the scale fuse on it.

Thanks
I think that it was able to correct enough to keep it level in the hover but when power was applied and the swash was raised it may have taken up all of the available throw causing a nose up input.
Just a thought but if the links are 30mm long and forcing the blade holder on bent one or more such that it was now 26 mm long then at full travel instead of being level the swash would have a 4mm tilt. Probably can't distinguish bending as pre, post or on impact.

Repaired and has been test flown
I did not do the repair. I sent it back to Tom and he fixed everything and has test flown it. I should have it by the end of the week and will get back to flying.

Now that I have wrecked and know what damage was done I feel confident in making my own repairs next time.

Things didn't turnout too bad. Both wings needed replacement and of course both sets of blades. Other than that there were some minor parts, (mostly plastic), links and 1 bearing.

In comparison it is not as expensive to repair as the Spectra G (Miniature Aircraft gas heli). It was even cheaper than the wrecks I had on my Miniature Aircraft Furion 450.

Wrecks are by no means cheap.

Great videos.

My ship is built, by me, but I have never flown it. Lot's of personal things along the way that kept me from putting my all into this aircraft. I have fired it up and have the nacelles transitioning on the bench.

I am hoping to get some time and go over all of the wiring to make sure everything is correct and secure. I am adding the Castle Quick Connects to the ESC's to allow easier plug-in.

Maybe some day I may fly it LOL

lejon, what brand gyros are they?

Thanks

Mine are Futaba GY430's. They work well.

Hopefully you will get to fly soon. It is a blast and is really pretty stable.

If you follow the videos that Tom has made you should be able to successfully fly first time. I went over the videos with my machine (that Tom built and tested) so that I could better understand what and how things worked.

I had looked into and considered the Castle quick connect link but since Tom wet it up for me I have only checked it twice and it was only a small hassle to remove the connections for testing.

I may still add them.

Nice. I like the blocks under the carriage. I think I like the coast guard colors.

Retracts for the Osprey
I put the set that came with the aircraft on and found on the first landing that I haven't developed the finesse necessary to land without bending them.

Therefore I ordered and modified a set and when the aircraft gets back I will put the modified units on.

The mods I did were to cut the shaft of the retract servo so that it would not protrude and hit the Oleo chamber. I then cut the top of the Oleo strut to reduce the overall height of the gear. I modified the main landing gear mount because the original ones were canted. The nose area had to be cut out to fit the larger servo box so I enlarged the plywood side plates on the profile body to add extra support.

Here are pics of what I am using.
I mounted them and had a few flights and they compress about 1/3 of the total travel when aircraft is sitting on the runway.

The only issue I am having is that the front gear is steerable and I haven't figured out how to mount a servo on the front (I have no experience with steerable nose gear). I am thinking of ordering another set and just using one of the main gears for the front.
