Is something like this available in the vast ocean of Align parts to speed up the tail? Want to try some lower head speeds.
thx

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Any room for 95mm tail blades?

60% of the time, it works every time!

95mm is what I use for 1550rpm. Avoid tall grass.

Is that on a 550 DFC? If so you solved my problem as I already run 95's on the tail. I enjoyed your blog pete!

Yes...DFC pro and thanks. Its actually more of a log than a blog for me.

KBDD extreme is the way to go vs carbon. Im using "pearl white" as its highly visible.

Thanks Pete. I will have to re read your blog for ideas on going to a lower head speed. I'm thinking of using the 700 850 kv motor.

Ive gone as high as 623mm.

Consider trying 570 before going to 600 if you get a chance. Specially if its for low head speed. The larger the blade for same given head speed, the shorter the flight but autos better. Chose your poison.

Not sure if it's an option on your Align, but on my Synergy E5 I replaced the tail fin with one from an E7 which gave me more tall grass clearance for the 96mm KBDD blades.

Unfortunately a longer fin makes the heli a three point lander like on their speed fuselage. Not boom friendly during some landings.

There's still a 5/8" clearance with stock fin using 95mm plus the clearance from tip of fin to ground.

The tall grass is more of a "green" build up and cleaning issue.

Right, I had to redrill mounting holes to not have a tripod

Kind of got in between, gained a little clearance, but not too much...

Ok, I just wanted to be sure: it is safe to run 600 blades on the 550 dfc?

I've been wondering this since I bought my 550 last spring but I've never seen a definitive answer. I saw 570's and wondered if they would work. I run rail 96 tails and 556 mains currently.

Are u running 0.8 or 0.6 metric umbrella drive gear in your tail boom box? And do u know how many tooth that umbrella drive gear is? U can get one with less teeth to speed up tail speed

Thanks for the info. Yes I have heard there are some speed up gears but didnt know if they would work on a DFC 550. When I go to a lower headspeed I like and the tail isn't holding well enough I will consider doing this.

Turbo

What heapspeed are you planning on running?

I run down to 1900 and the tail holds great. Perhaps you're going lower than that.

Here is a copied post under the topic head speed here on the Align forum. Didn't want to type it in again!! Lol.
I ran my 550 at 2500 and got tired of it and didn't like the short flight times. 4 to 5 minutes depending on how you treat the lipos. I started lowering the head speed and changed to a 10t pinion on my 600 MX. I am now at 2060 head speed and get 7 minute run times easily.my throttle settings are 90-80-90 in stunt mode so I can't go much lower on the talon 90 without things becoming increasingly inefficient. So I am going to try the 550 pro motor ..the 730mx with 850kv.instead of the huge 16 t pinion I will use anything from a 10-13t pinion. This will according to Mr Mel's calculator anywhere from 1600 to just over 2000 headspeed depending on the pinion. And they will be done at or very near the 100% throttle mark to keep up efficiency. It should be unboggable with the high torque low kv motor. Pete here has a nice blog with his findings and if interested check it out! Let us know where you end up.
