I have a 2 month old Align 550E with about 30 flights on it. All has been steady and perfect until this past week. On Monday, I noticed that it had developed a wide slow tail wag. I tried turning up the gyro and that just made it wag faster and tighter. I turned it down and it wagged slower. It was not extreme so I flew it 3 flights and went home. My gyro settings have been working good at 40% in hover and 35% in idle 1 and 2.

The next day I went to the field and flew one flight. I noticed that the heli wanted to dip hard left in an idle up hover and I had to hold a lot of right stick in it to maintain hover. I experimented some and found that in hover mode the tail wags but the heli maintains level. When I go to idle up (100% throttle curve at about 2470 rpm) the tail wag stays about the same but the heli will suddenly drop pretty hard left and slightly forward.

I went over the heli with another very experienced pilot. We checked all the connections and found nothing loose nor did we find anything binding.

Next, I removed and remounted the 3gx with the grey 3M tape and I re-leveled the swash. I also checked to make sure that there was no inadvertent trim being put in in idle up and there is not. I actually have trim turned off in my transmitter to prevent this. I monitored the servos and there is no movement when I flip between hover and idle up when the throttle is at mid-stick or above.

Does this sound like the 3gx has gone bad?

Thanks,
Steve

3gx issues
I have checked the bearings and all mechanical components unless I overlooked something. Last night I changed out the 3gx unit for a spare I had and I am going to test it today to see if the issue goes away. If so, then at least I have narrowed it down to the 3gx. If so, then I will need to try to see if it is in the setup or a problem with the unit itself.

A friend of mine just had a very similar issue with his 550. It turned out to be faulty motor bearings.
