No, the 2008 crash wasn't just a "bump". And it had a very definite cause; that cause is directly related to one of the darlings of the conservative platform.
Are you talking about the repeal of Glass-Steagall?

Ron is ok but he think he too superlative] for ordinary American, and
that a problem for he can't figure out his own EGO.
Well, to his credit, he does try to tell the truth. Nothing you'll ever get out of a Republican/Tea Partyer and rarely out of a Democrat too.

So he has value by telling it like it is, IMO....

Well, think Sarbanes-Oxley; in particular, what its goals are. They're in direct contradiction to the desires of any conservative platform with respect to the financial industry.

I don't want to give away why in particular because I'd like spaceman to figure it out, but the 2008 crash is a good example of why there are efforts like S-O and "big government" entities like the SEC. And, underlyingly, it gives us a preview of life under the heel of conservative economic policies should they actually go into force.

Go it.

Well, I don't like the idea of living under a heel, doesn't seem like it would be very comfortable or accommodating. Now a whole foot might be a different story,...more square footage.

Actually a better analogy for conservative economic policies is the Wild Wild West/frontier justice, moreso than a heel, I guess... my bad...

Absolutely not. Which makes it even more curious that conservatives like yourself are in favor of policies designed specifically to dismantle that very infrastructure that implements and enforces those standards and protections, doesn't it?

You do understand, however, that you're supporting a political platform whose main goal is to make sure that information is not available to you. And that those opportunities go to someone else, rather than you, don't you?
As you said, you need to know what you're buying. But it strikes me that you don't know in this particular case.

Nonsense. By then the damage is done and the party's over. A smart conservative would study his party's platform first, then decide what it means for him. Same with any legislation that may affect him as well.

Ah, so you didn't know that. See, that's why I asked you if you knew what the underlying cause of the 2008 crash was.

If you knew that, you would have also known that your very own party/platform is hostile directly to your goals as an investor in the financial markets. That platform which surely you've already studied, of course.

Please say you really knew this and just wanted to throw a quick Obummer-trantrum instead?

Glass steagle was a huge part of the problem but not all. (Thanks Bush 1)

Commercial banks still shouldnt be able to gamble with deposits, but the other side of that is capitalization. In order for banks to have enough cash/paper money to gamble with they need fractional reserve banking with enough leverage and concentration to take down an entire productive economy. (SOX, Dodd-Frank, BASEL I, II, III, etc...)

TBTF banks are a monopoly by definition. The Federal Reserve System requires every bank in the US to become a member and fall under its regulatory structure. Purposely creating a high barrier to entry.

The part of the capitalization came from the GSE's that had been given accelerated power under the Community Re-investment expansion done under Clinton.

The other part was done by de-coupling the dollar from Gold under Nixon in the 70's. That is what accelerated the availability of derivative money to float around.

I havent even begun to talk about capital controls... how many here feel safe moving their money to Cayman or Switzerland? You think that is by accident?

You cannot blame conservatives, liberals, republicans, or democrats for 2008 and what is worse to come. Everyone in this country is to blame.

The root cause is education. If citizens knew what they were voting for, they would have had a revolution already. Only a hand full of people can tell you how our banking system works.... and that is a huge problem.

2008 was one of the biggest wealth transfers in the history of this once great country.

Think its over? Think again! Go look a FRED website's macro monetary charts.

Well, you as a class don't seem to know anything at all about your own party's platform. That's why you see hope there where there isn't any, at least none for you.

They were just better salesmen to a more gullible group than the other party was, that's about all.

They won on fiscal platform, now we watch while they dont follow through again.. and drag us into another war which might be fought on our soil for once.

China and Russia have been taking steps to decouple world energy markets from the petro dollar. When the dollar is at jeopardy of losing its reserve status when war will pop off.
