I purchased a V2 muffler from B.hanson less than 3 months the inside is broken with less then 20 flights I contacted century helicopter they ask me to send them a picture and a receipt they just got back to me, please read their response also keep in mind the warranty is for 1 year of any manufacture defect please also keep in mind hanson has been a dealer for century for years the warranty never said you had to purchased from century in order to be valid
here's a copy of century's reply to my email

Unfortunately, we do not warranty our mufflers that are sold through BH due
to their engine tuning. If you had purchased the muffler through us, we may
have been able to warranty it. Thank you and have a good day.

Poor customer service always ends up hurting the business in the long run. Did you try BH and see if they can do anything for you?

I would ask to speak to someone else at Century. If the pipe is in original condition (which it looks to be) the warranty should be valid. $135 is no chump change especially for a muffler.
Keep trying until you get it resolved and thanks for keeping other hobbyists informed.

hmm
I am sure Hanson is doing this with the best intent. Knowing this though Hanson should never sell a pipe ever even if he gets it cheaper since he cannot warrenty anything. The "tunning process" Adjective bothers me a lot.

I would bet the same 'tunning process' exist in many gass helis especially Century's own 'modded' motor...

to my knowledge hanson was a dealer for century helicopter for years he sells them engine 30-40 at times and he also sells mufflers for century, separate or as a combo, when I return a futaba/jr servo that have problems they never told me the warranty is only valid if I buy direct from futaba correct? Century is misleading
futaba/jr only look up the receipt for time of purchased, when I called century they where very rude on the phone one guy even hang up on me

Ok...now I'm curious.

Any one has experienced same or similar with other engine modifiers?

What are the differences between Hanson tuned engines (or others) and theirs.

Since this seems to be an issue, was Hanson aware of it?

Are they going to be able to sell anymore based on this? (stay tuned for discounts)

Does this (new?) warranty policy from Century apply to any and all their products not sold by them directly?

Does the muffler come with engine RPM ratings? Any other rating what-so-ever?

Did they even asked what engine and rpm /gear ratio /head speed etc. was being used?

@Carey Shurley...
you seem to have direct contact with Peter. Can you verify or deny this for us? Anyone else?

The last post here in RR "that I can recall" about a muffler going bad was for an RJX. Such lack of information could be used as an indicator that its not related to other engines other than Century but rather one bad muffler from the lot.

It should be warranted unless Hanson has a disclaimer on his webpage to which Century could have verified in order to avoid this very thread.

Definitely give Al a call at Hanson. He is a great guy and I am sure he will help you out. I really don't know how his modifications can shorten the life of a muffler. I would think that the balancing would only help. Also, just because you bought the muffler from Hanson, does not automatically mean that you ran it on one of his motors.

most of the time companies will only warrant a receipt if the seller is a authorized vendor sellers only give 2 weeks to 45
day warranty on average

The problem is that they will not warranty a new muffler, its not like the mufflers are going bad because they are sitting on the shelf next to the modded motors.

besides, what if the muffler is used on thier version of the modded motor that they "recommend"... all they did was copy BH and TRM anyway, now the muffler cannot be warrantied cause its used in a modded motor thats not thiers? I call BS on Century for trying to slither out of this one.

...does not surprize me anyway... I remember reading a post about thier $300 UAV muffler for the gasser helis. The OP said They would not warranty it cause it was used on a gasoline engine...

A quote from this thread,,,,
I don't see how century can stay in business. I have a UAV commercial gas muffler. I have put a little over a gallon through it. A baffle has come loose in it. it now rattles. I sent century an email to see if they would take it back and make it good. they emailed me back and flat out said no. that the muffler was used on a gas helicopter and all gas helicopters have vibration. can you believe it. one would think that a muffler that cost over $300 would be made at least a little better, guess not.

Make a video with the recording in the backround and put it on You Tube. Then put it on RR.

Recorded conversation? Duly noted. Thread lightly(?)

I'm here for answers because I own their products and not to perpetuate about something I have NEVER owned.

Most of us know recording conversations without the other party's knowledge is illegal in some states. Uglyryder made them aware of this after they said they were recording his conversation.
I would be really pissed if I paid good money for an item and it did not perform it's intended task.
Maybe there has been a change in management or ownership because I can't imagine a company being in business this long without standing behind their product. Come to think about they are standing behind their product- waaaaaaasaay baaaaaack.
I also would not expect them to be rude and laugh at the customer when dealing with them on the phone.

I have come to realize people take you serious when you are there in front of their face. Road trip
