T-REX 450 › 450SA released when???

After a zillion flights, I finally stuffed my 450SA. It appears that the servo arm on the elevator servo fractured. The resulting loss of control was "interesting" to say the least. This is the first crash with this heli. I've had this since it was first released, but don't remember when it came out.

Does anyone know the release date on this heli? Unfortunately, the manual does not have a copyright date.

Thanks for your response!

Thank you! These last a good long time if you don't crash. I sure got my monies worth out of this one.

Approximately 1600 flights, and I'm sure that there are flights I didn't log. The only maintenance I've had to do was that I changed the gears and tail belt once. My flying style can best be described as "old fart", so my equipment tends to last a long time. Also, at some point in its history, it was updated with an Align 450 Sport FBL head and Align 410 and 420 servos. A first generation Align G3 controller has served well and reliably with no drama.

During teardown, it became apparent that the damage is more extensive than originally thought. The tail boom is bent, as are both the upper and lower side frames. This model used aluminum frames. While the landing gear legs are OK, both skids are bent. Even the front battery mounting tray is bent as well as the canopy being significantly cracked. Totaling the cost of replacement parts to rebuild this heli to like new condition renders this essentially a rekit.

The LHS has an Align 450 Sport V2 kit. This kit is being very heavily discounted by several internet providers and I believe the LHS will match the online pricing. So guess where I'm heading this afternoon!

I'll use the 450 Sport FBL head and G3 controller on this build. With luck, I should have it ready for its maiden flight by Friday morning.

gmcullan don't worry John has a 450 Sport in stock. That's if you want something with a flybar.

Not any more. I picked it up this afternoon. I will not use the FB head, installing a 450 Sport FBL head and using a tried and true AR7600BX receiver/FBL controller. I'm almost done with the airframe build and weather permitting, should make the maiden flight Friday morning.

I am also an 'old fart' and have a very long of tooth 450SA that is really more of a Frankenheli due to all of the modifications and upgrades. My side frames have a special patina to them - from the multiple times they have been beaten straight on the flat of my shop vise with my 5 pound sledge hammer! It gives them a unique 'distressed' look, kind of like expensive new jeans... You can easily put it back together again. Enjoy your flying, I think it is a great hobby! Andy

Inverted IS more fun!

I crashed my SA a few weeks back and decided it was time to let it die. Mine has been through hell and back. I used to have 6-8 packs and I'd fly it every day either until all my packs were dead or I crashed. I crashed at least once a week back then. Like was said before, my side frames have a lot of tool marks from hammering them back flat.
I decided I am going to pick up one of the new 6S Dominators in a week or so. Last night I was bored so I looked over the pile that was my SA. Checked my stash of parts and got to work. Three hours later the thing is ready to go again. I am out of quite a few parts though after this repair. I used My last set of blades, no more new bearings, may be last time the frames can be flattened, no more of the large tail drive gears and I had to use a mismatched set of boom supports.
I thought this was its final crash but it survives to fly one more round.
I think I'll wait until the Dominator is RTF before this one goes up again.

Matt

I didnt hammer the frames back in shape due to streching the metal. What i use is a pair of flanging plyers use in sheet metal work for bending and flatten sheet metal....the jaws dont pinch closed at the tip they come flat together like a vice.....works great. ....got them at Sears for $35
