My OS50 hyper suffers internal damage. I recently flew 2 flights where I noticed an abnormal engine noise. I assumed the noise was due to faulty bearings since I have experienced faulty stock bearings on the OS 50 hyper engines before.

On the third flight, I couldn't get the motor to start. I pulled the engine out and noticed some roughness when turning the crankshaft by hand. After disassembling, the bearings are normal but the piston head, hyper head, and areas inside the crankcase have pitting and gouges. Part of the piston ring is no longer on the piston which I think caused the gouging.

If I replaced just the piston and piston ring ($54), do you think the engine would run normal still having the scrapes inside the crankcase and on the hyper head?

Your cylinder liner is also in need of replacement. You could try to hone the liner with a cylinder hone which attaches to a drill. Either if you replace or repair the cylinder, it should be cheaper to than getting a new engine at $220. Scratches inside the crank are nothing to be concerned about.

Thanks Rexiggpilot. I decided to ship the motor in for service not to exceed 50% of a new one. I figured they have seen many motors come through the service center and know what the minimum parts are to replace and make it run normal.

I have a low time OS50 hyper that I will sell you $110 if you are interested. I'm flying YS60's now.

I also have another with a good bit of time on it but still runs good that I will sell for less.
