JR copies the best of Futaba by using the same two antennas for receiving and telemetry just like the 7003/7008. And they kept Model Match from the Spektrum days:

They might look similar and that might be due to the type of WiFi transceiver they use and to extend the range of the telemetry.

But the S/W that is used to make the radio IC work properly is different.

i.e DMSS vs FAAST

Don't think that's copying.

I think the point FS made was that JR is moving away from the Spektrum type satellites. Their XBus is a serial digital communication similar to Futaba SBus. I like what JR is doing.

Go to the FCC database and type in Japan Remote Control. The chip in the XG14 TX is a TI CC2520 used for DMSS. DMSS hops as per my cheap spectrum analyzer. So DMSS is hopping ZigBee - at least the hardware protocol layer.

This is a ZigBee 802.15.4 chip.

The FASST chip is irrelevant. They use a standard 1.5 Mbps FSK chip and a standard micro processor and their own code.

The OP wanted to point out that JR DMSS is dumping satellites. Since some manufacturers have built stuff around the 4-pin satellite interface, they have a new two antenna satellite to support them. But most people will just use the 712 RX and maybe XBus - no more satellites. Satellites were a damn stupid idea to begin with like DFC.

That's a nice DMSS radio IC.

They also gave a line of sight range spec. at 400 meters max.

I don't like the 3-pin satellite RX interface either...too fragile.

The TX has a power amplifier to boost it to 100 mW (or about that). But the return telemetry is just the chip. You can download the 802.15.4 spec for free. Also the DMSS FCC test results are free.

Type in Japan Remote Control as the company OR Futaba OR Horizon OR Graupner, etc. OR if you have the type acceptance number, do that.

So I assume that when one quits getting telemetry feedback, one is about at the extreme of range.

I'd like to see the software...that's where a lot of the R&D is.

I spoke with Steve Helms of Futaba at the '93 AMA Nats, and he was talking about Futaba's plans for SS way back then.

Guess we had to wait for the technology to mature....

Have always liked TI products.
