Yes, the Trex 800 landing skids are trick.

Is there any doubt this is an Align helicopter? Talk about branding!

The skids are not a direct bolt-on to to the V2 700 nitro.
They are made for the new (narrower) 700N DFC, 700E and 800E airframes.
The bolt-holes in the skids will not line-up with the mounting holes on the frame.
I had to drilled & tap new mounting holes on the front cross-brace.

I am also concerned for the 800 skid's durability.
As you can see, they are not 1 piece from side-to-side. They are 1 piece front-to-back.
I figure 12 lbs of heli landing hard is not going to be pretty.

The tail fin is for the 800 also, and it is at least 10mm longer than the 700 tail fin.
I may add a shim under the rear of the landing skids to tilt the tail up - I think that will make it better looking on the ground and add clearance below the tail fin.

Now that looks good. Yeah I see your point with the durability. Could you make a brace under there to run across for strength?Robert

At first, I thought I was missing something.
The Trex 800 DFC has 12S LiPo with an option for 14S.
It is not a light heli. These are standard on it

In the Trex 800 DFC online manual (http://www.ronlund.com/mm5/part_finder_pdf/RH80E03X.pdf) there is no cross-brace.
So I don't think I am missing a part.
These have to be more durable that I give them credit for.

I'll fly them until something gives.
If they are more durable than I think, then I would have to replace them.
Otherwise, I still have my old style cross-frame style landing skids.

All Finished
While it cost alot more than I expected and some elements of the upgrade didnt go as smoothly as I thought...I am finally done. Bench checked and flight tested. I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

Thanks Ticedoff8!

Actually, a lot of my upgrades were prompted from your posts. I saw what the 800 skids and fin looked like on yours so I decided that they would be a nice way to finish off my upgraded look. Without your posts, I'm not sure I would have done it even though I've been playing with the idea for a while.

So, I will give you a big thanks and credit for inspiring me to take to the plunge on the upgrade. I gotta say, I wouldn't have come across your posts without RR.

Happy flying! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine My 700N flies great. Align needs to come out with an official upgrade kit for their nitro lines though. All the MFGs have been leaving the N folks out in the cold lately.
