So, I'm going to be spending the last half of September and first half of October in Australia for work! I've been waiting for a trip to Aus for a long time.

I will be going to Canberra for a week, then to Brisbane, Sidney, then back to Canberra again for the last two weeks.

I would love to hear some tips from my fellow RR folks that live down under. I need to get a SIM card for my phone, so what's the best provider and plan for a pre-paid card? Good hotels? Any info is much appreciated. I will be bringing my personal Hex for some off books aerial photo/video. Any ideas for places to go shoot aerials?

Cheers,
Erich

G'day Mate,

I'm on the Gold Coast about 1 hour south of Brisbane by car.

The SIM for your phone wont be a problem there are a few providers.
You will get the best coverage with Telstra but also the most expensive. The other two providers are Vodafone and Optus I changed to Vodafone in the last couple of months from Optus and have found the 4G coverage much better I think you will find Vodafone probably the best value and so long as your in the Metro areas your coverage will be fine.

As far as hotels I'm not sure your after or what I'd recommend but this website will no doubt help you find something.

I'm not sure on the laws regarding flying your hex here I only fly at club fields as the laws don't allow to just fly anywhere. As far as subject matter to photo/video I don't think you'll have any problems finding places.

I hope you enjoy your stay here. Also it maybe worth your while signing up on the local forum you'll get a better response from the guys living in the city's your going to visit.

Steve and Chris, thanks much for the info. I will definitely check out ArcHeli as well. I don't see us getting out to Perth on this trip, but if Australia turns into a regular customer for my company, it just might happen eventually.

Steve, I will be attending the Land Forces Conference in Brisbane. If I find I will have a day to play, I'll PM you.

Cheers,

Erich

Hah, Chris it looks like our training event might end up in Perth! Going to be a logistical nightmare to re-arrange travel to get all the way over there. I'll let you know it it develops.

For my other Australian friends, I will be doing a Demonstration at the Canberra Model Airplane Club on the 19th. Is there anyone here that is a member of that club?

Cheers,
Erich

So, apparently we made a good impression with the Australian Army. The General wants a personal demonstration and the Force Mod Lt Col wants to do an eval. So, I'm headed back over to Sydney starting Wednesday.

Then, it's off to Perth for training on Dec 1st. Delta is gonna love me this year!
