Have a good friend that I am helping learn to fly.. he has an assortment of 450's and a 500, all trex.
Question is this, and I want to make sure I am steering him in the right direction.. he is flying his 500 well and is getting ready to step up to a larger machine, and asked if he should go 550 or 600??
My thought is the 500 and 550 are about the same size, so I suggested the 600... anyone have a pic of a 500/550 next to a 600?? Also, he is only flying some big air right now and is actually looking to go scale, after he learns some mild stunts and auto's..

Thanks in advance for you help/input

I would steer towards final goal.

500 swings 425mm while a 550 swings 520mm and up which can be stretched for 600 purpose. They are not the same size.

Good Info
Thanks Pistol__Pete,

So the 550 would be closer to the old 30 sized helis?? I understand streching them...
I am still leaning towards the 600 which would be the goal forr this step..
Thx, Stan

Hi Stan. I would go with the 600 size also. It's like the EVO 30 to 50 size. Longer boom and blades.
The Blade 600 is the best bang for the buck now.
Good luck.

Yes, 550 is the old .30 while 600 the old .50 and of course 700 the .90

Definitely do some more digging as their newer 3GPro FBL unit is out.

Would you know that the Align 550 DFC V3 has a 600 head and boom already? A few less parts than the 600 and no need to stretch, so it can take larger blades down the road.

Either motorized for a 6S set up making it lighter or some come with a 700 class motor...grunt-grunt. Hmmm...definitely lots of flavors to choose from. ESC in combo kits would be a major deciding factor...for me.

Best of luck!

The 550 is a perfect size for a first helicopter. One 6s battery instead of the 2x 6s for the 600 or 700 size. I do agree that the 550 is like the old .30 nitro size, but the 550 way out performs any of the old .30 powered birds. I have had my 550 for years and it almost always is packed in the car when I'm going to the field.

Thanks Again
Thank you for the info guys... it sure does help... that little 550 looks to be a really nice heli/HOT ROD!!!! I like that it is already streched out of the box though....
Well, my buddy is shopping and I turned him onto it so that he could take a look
