demo
Had the chance to do a LHS flight, noon time demo at the RC Madness heli harrvest fun fly. What fun. This event was at an air plane mostly cub. The president of the club and member of the club that were there really enjoyed the LHS flight. I hope this helps spread the LHS trend.

Question gents, would it be a benefit to use a single 7s pack for low head speed? Are there any pro's and con's??

I prefer 7s (5000mah) for a few reasons. Weight, I find it easier to CG my 700 with the few extra ounces. Voltage, keeping a small pinion I can raise my headspeed slightly with the increased voltage. I run 1100/1250/1400 on my E5 setup as a 700. I know a few guys running 8s as well for similar reasons. I run 7s in all my E5's as well so own mostly 7s and have for the last two years. I have run my Goblin 770 on 7s as well (1000 headspeed).

Yep i started out with 7s, mainly because my other heli ran 14s. That's all i had. Worked great, long story short i had a 2 year old 7s 5000
65C pack left from a crash. Thing had been passed around the field too.
I think it's still flying a E7 at low head speed i sold last year to get a E5 to stretch.

I went to 8s 5000 long stick packs for my E5ss but ended up having to add a little ballast to the nose to get it to balance. I'm back to another E7
to run low head speed on now. 7s used to be a odd size but not so much anymore. If it'll fit in your frames, and you have a charger that'll charge a 7s pack do it is all i can say.

Now, if you're going with a 7s pack, is it necessary to have a Bic C count like a 65c pack or is 35c -45c good?

I used 65C because that's what i had on hand. I think a lower C rating would be fine to use. Lighter weight and lower cost.

Way back in the day, (I say that alot seems like) we used a Wattsup plugged inline with the flight pack. It would show voltage, peak watts used, Mah used etc.. Not sure you can find one aymore but if you have a way of recording your amp draw during a flight you can see if your particular
pack is large enough for your set up.

Many other uses too. If you have a ESC with Data Logging that can tell you the same info.

Correct me if I am wrong it seems to me the cell count you choose has a lot to do with what head speed you wish to run. If you have a low kv motor and need to put on a rather large pinion to get to the head speed you want on six cells you may put your motor at a disadvantage efficiency wise. It would be better to go up from a six to seven cell with the original pinion to get there.
Also of course if you use a Talon 90 six cell esc you would have to move up.

On my dedicated low head speed 700E 6 cell helicopter I run 30C packs as well as 45C packs and notice no difference. All come down after a flight just slightly warm and all get the same run times roughly. I have seen a lot of new low C packs being brought to market for the quad guys. I have even seen 10c packs with lots of mah. 10,000 ,,,20,000!!
There weight is usually lower per mah than higher C packs.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Personally I am not a fan of low KV motors or 12s low headspeed setups. Totally a personal preference and it certainly works for some. I also prefer the way the heli flies two pounds lighter with only one pack. My helicopter setups were most certainly designed with this in mind. It has been very cool to read all different approaches people take to lower headspeed setups. If I convert my 556 E5 to a 626 bird it will get a motor swap and my initial thought would be in the 1600-1800 head speed range and on 7s. Which means I will most likely go with 730 kv 4025 which I know from experience is ample power for me to bang it around.
