Bob,.. while that may be true, the glow engine is only 20~25% efficient in extracting that energy. The batteries may only have 1/3~1/4 the energy aboard but the're 3 times more efficient(higher in many cases) in extracting it for use,.. so the equation ends up about equal. Nothing against either power source, both work well, but there's not that much difference, if any, in the energy you can use during flight. With a glow engine you can only use it at the maximum rate the engine is capable of consuming it. With the electric, you can consume it slowly for long flights, or really really fast (as most people do) for dramatic power, at the expense of flight time. I don't see one as better or worse, just different.

My comment wasn't based on numbers really. More from flying a given routine with an N and an e. It always seems the Nitro has more left over.
I agree the electric has things over Nitro though.

Understand,.. I just get very analytical sometimes,..or psychotic as some say , and I always want to know the numbers.I find the whole energy density and power density comparison very interesting when comparing E and N. More energy density in one and more power density in the other, with different possible extraction rates. They both work equally well, and everyone can make their own choice.

I just love my nitrobirds. Just picked up a Trex 700N Love the fact that I do not need to charge a lot of batteries and storage charge them by the end of the day. I have put well over 10 gallons this year without any problems, just fill her up and fly

No electrics for me!!!!!!

So was the trend at IRCHA really back toward nitro this year? I'm 100% nitro.

I fly both. Nitro will never die. Not quite the same without all the noise and white smoke trail against a dark blue sky which is a great orientation aid. I like my electric and all, but not sure where this "born again" BS is coming from.

Well, someone see's it as the future because cars are going electric and there is quite an acceleration of the electric full scale aircraft movement as well.
